The Steel Helmet (Samuel Fuller, 1951).
Actually a watchable US war movie (quite a rarity, especially among the old ones) and the first about the Korean war (which was barely 6 month old at the time).
Completely free of hurrah patriotism. Racism is deliberately used but not in the usual way to dehumanize the enemy but as part of the high degree of realism displaying the typical attitudes at the time (i.e. no whitewash of how minorities were treated as common in other movies).

According to the imdb that led to Fuller being investigated by the FBI (it was the McCarthy era)

Today, I have been watching for bats.

Tonight, I will also be watching (and listening) for bats.

This trend is beginning to worry me. I need to get out more...
