Batten down your hatches, Opsa!

The Ocean o'Sand is veering from quite chilly all last week to a last gasp of temperate weather.

Weather stayed very pleasant all day.
It just was already completely dark by 6pm.

Quote from: OpsaWe are in the way of Hurricane Sandy. Right now we're just cloudy and breezy, but by tomorrow we should be rainy and windy. The worst of it is said to be here on Tuesday, buckets of rain and high winds, then taper off on Wednesday.

I'm doing laundry today in case the power goes out. We've been bringing in outdoor items that might otherwise be blown away.

Oo-err!  Good luck, Opsa - don't forget to nail the garden down.

Over here and in this place it is still the same lovely weather as yesterday (currently 7.1°C at 11:30am, close to no clouds and only the slightest wind). But other parts of the country are less fortunate. Lots of car accidents in Saxony and Thuringia because of unexpected snowfall. Few people had yet switched to winter tyres.

The outer edges of hurricane Sandy are just clipping us, here. It is dark, breezy and rainy right now. Schools and public transportation are closed. More is expected, along with power outages.

The main brunt of it will pass north of us. I'm glad I'm not up there. Poor folks. I hope everyone comes through okay.

Don't be afraid, the prayer warriors are hard at work to avert or at least divert the storm.

Personally, I think it would be more beneficial to sacrifice the instigators to the angry storm god(s) instead. It would have the same effect on the storm (=none) but at least we would be rid of some of the most annoying nuts and frauds

Well, obviously the prayer warriors aren't working hard enough or something, because it is definitely worse now than it was a couple of hours ago.

We put towels on the floor of our back porch as water poured in. We are in the highlands, mind you, not on a flood plain, and the porch is a good six feet off the ground. It is the rain that is pouring in from the north. The O'lette and I just changed the sopping towels with a dry set and are washing the sopping ones. So much water was in them that it slopped over the sides of the laundry basket and I had to drain it over a waste basket before I could bring it in to the laundry room.

This could get tedious!

Clocks went back yesterday, so I now wake in the dark, and it is still dark when I go to sleep. I might as well be in Finland. Or Lapland. etc.

Hope you don't get flooded out Ops.

Being an evening person and late-riser I prefer late sunrise and even later sunset.

Our clocks don't go back until this coming Sunday. It's a conspiracy, I tells ya.

I'm afraid to go look on the back porch, now.

According to the Darwin Awards website, differences in the resetting date between different regions has been lethal in at least one case.
Two Palestinians were tasked with placing a car bomb (of the non-suicidal variety). But the occupied territories and Israel switched from and to DST on different days. Those who had primed the fuses and the drivers had not noticed that and not compared their respective watches. As a result the bomb blew up when the drivers believed still to have a full hour to find the right spot and get away.

I think you're right about the Prayer Warriors®, Opsa!
Maybe Swato has the right idea for them.

After all, just who are they *actually* battling against, with their incessant demands?     Think about it...     :hmmm:

Seriously. It's just as you were saying in the Halloween thread. It seems disrespectful to keep nattering at your god for your own needs. What if the Great Whatever has a reason for this storm that's none of our immediate business? Maybe it's here to avert some terrorist attack or something. Aint no planes flying in this area, today. Maybe we need to just shut our pie-holes and cope. Ya know?

It's 2:05 pm here. They just cancelled school for tomorrow, and Mr. ops is being sent home from work at 3:30. So far we still have electricity... coffee, tea... soup...computer... civilization!
