1) Snowplow  (Plow is ok)

2) Snowbank

That's the Canuckistani version, eh?  Other parts of the world may be different (what's the Aussie version? ;)).

Blue, glad to hear you're getting some cool temperatures and rain, no more big fires this year please!
WWDDD?

Opsa

We are expecting 6-12 inches of snow tonight, here. Hopefully we'll be seeing and hearing the snowplows making snowbanks all night.

We evaded the snow that is blanketing other parts of the UK. Just a light sprinkling.

Thank you Aggi!  :)

It is the situations when one run into words or concepts that are so well known that you take them for granted in the first language but unknown and hard to find a proper translation for in the second language that makes one realise that the second language really is a second  language... :-\

-9°C cloudy but no more snow at the moment. Much fun will be had tomorrow as I have to shovel through a 40cm high and 60cm wide snowbank in order to move the car and park it at another street, as Monday is plowing day where I usually park (and I plan to be lazy on Sunday ;D)...
I love snow but I don't particularly like this part...

Bleh, some of us crawled to and from work at 20MPH through 4" snow on the way in and 1" Ice on the way back.  (Yeah, I know ice less than 2ft thick is called "Summer" in Canuckistan...).

And the correct spelling is "snowplough"  ;)

I never crawl anywhere. My grand-daughter, on the other hand, has just learnt how.

No, that's called "Stampede" in Calgary (only 2 seasons - winter and Stampede - as the Bluette is to find out). ;)

20 MPH is actually not bad - I was moving at 5 kph during one of the first big snowstorms out here (had to pick up samples at the west edge of the city).

In Canadian usage ploughs are for turning up dirt, plows move snow.  As usual, we are nestled between the UK and the US on this particular spelling.

Temperature has dropped below -10°C but the infamous Xmas thaw is already announced

Finally getting cooler, 60F/16C felling like 56F/14C due to wind and expected to reach 74F/22C at some point but with the same cool wind. Now the birds will likely have to be inside all day long.

Over here, the world has turned white.

About -7 and very heavy snowfall for the last week or so. The first few days were a merry chaos on the railways, with tracks covered in thigh-deep snow, but now that most of the stuff has been cleared away, things are moving again. Right now, it is snowing so much that we can hardly see the house across the street.

I hope we will get a wee bit more snow but it seems unlikely. There's possibly be even rain next week. At close to zero that will make walking outside 'interesting'.

Merry Chaos to you too - and a Happy New Year!  ;)

Dropping back to reasonably cold temperatures (-10 ish) after a brief respite.  Friday night, it was +8C and a jacket was not required. Current forecast suggests Calgary will get a bit more snow, and then a sunny but white Christmas (of course, the forecast here is useless more than 24 hours in advance).

Heading back home this morning; looks to be rather close to zero with chance of rain, so it may be a green Christmas there (mom and dad are close to the lake, which usually keeps things on the warm side).  Last 2 years have been nice and snowy, was hoping for a 3rd.

We got snow! Here's a photo of my round picnic table, looking rather like an alien pod rising up from some sort of ventricular portal.

(The marker stuck in it read 18 inches.)

Yaeh, well we've had a bit of relief the last couple of weeks, but it looks like it's going to hot up again soon.  There's been a lot of growth over the winter/spring months and all it will take is a few hot days and some strong hot northerly winds and the whole place could be alight again.  There have already been a few bushfires around the place.  We're all keeping our fingers crossed.
