Over on Pharyngula, there's a news bit about Huckabee:

"Next year the Texas State Board of Education will be writing the science curriculum standards for Texas public schoolchildren, and Huckabee may bring enough conservative fundamentalist voters to the polls on March 4 to swing the balance of power on the board to the supporters of creationism."

All you who live in Texas may want to take note, and scramble your resources to combat this.

Alas, I don't live in Texas.

Is there anything I can do from here?

I'm in Texas.

Even the religious conservatives where I live consider him a nutcase.

At this moment, the Religious Right in Texas has done up shrunk considerable...how dare you say they ever voted fer That Guy an' his ol Halliburton Warlord VP???

People who had their W 04 stickers have scraped them off. Even in Bryan/College Station, there aren't that many.

I don't know about the rest of the state, but the real nutjobbies seem to have decided to sit this one out around here. (And some of the not-quite-as-nutjobs asthe useta be?? Are askin' ME--and Dan--who to vote for since Edwards isn't on the ballot anymore. Democratic primary's gonna be interesting!)

I would try, but most of my Texas contacts are creationist relatives. : /

being Christian is not the problem-- it's his lack of science understanding and the fact that he and his (potential VP --- Chuck) don't want to have an understanding-- they are afraid that god will punish them if they allow science to corrupt their fragile little minds.

and don't tell me that he'd  not take Chuck Norris as a VP running mate in a heartbeat if ol Chuck proffered an interest--- they've been practiacally making out at times.

he's just mucking up the works is all-- and IMHO in a worse way than Nader ever did.

Sibling Chatty

Well, as the Official First Voter in the precinct, I really upset the Republican applecart.

The local 'tradition' here is that the party with the first voter will dominate. Me first, Dan next? Both Democrats? The lady at the Republican table was almost crying.

Outside, one of the local old farts was arguing with his brother about whether to vote Dem or Repub primary. They were going back and forth, and both feel the Dem will win in November, but..which Dem to vote for?? "I ain't happy bout votin' fer no black man or for no woman." And I interjected "So, you're going to stop going to the doctors you both see?" The local cardiologist and 'gerontologist' they both see are one black, the other a woman. I said "You'll place your very LIFE in the hands of these people, but you won't trust them more than some drunk-ass frat boy who got his rich Daddy to buy him out of trouble for YEARS?? Or that handful of whipped down loonies they've got to follow him?"

The older one said "I just cain't vote for a <n-word>." And I asked him WHAT percentage of blood made a person 'colored' in his opinion... He couldn't say. So I did the whole lineup of white mother, raised by white grandparents, went to the MOST EXCLUSIVE private school in Hawaii, then Columbia and Harvard--Ivy League--and asked about the educational level of THEIR kids and Grandkids...

He allowed as ANY <n-word> in your background made you a <n-word>, so I walked away and left Dan to explain my convoluted heritage to them...

Now these are old guys that I helped out with cooking and laundry when they had the flu really badly. I walked back, called 'em "Massa Herman and Massa Gus" and walked away again. Then Dan told them about the great nieces and nephews...all mixed race. And that they'd just put the end to my ever speaking to them or about them.

The caucus meetings tonight should be interesting. Gus was County Democratic Chairman for most of the 60's and 70's, so they'll be there. And you ain't NEVER been ignored until I ignore you...it's one of those "there is nothing there. No protoplasm, not even a vapor" kinda ignores.

Dammit, these people are Lutherans, not FundaBaptists. You'd think they could behave better.

Well, Hukaquiter finally admitted reality, and quit.

Finally.

Now, it's down to Obama/Hilldog and McCain.

I haven't heard if Ms Clinton is still running or no.

Oh, Hillary's not gonna quit until forced. That she's got Ohio is unfortunate...she'll look on it as a sign.

Texas is up in the air at the moment.

Did you see her on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, last night?

She's certainly an interesting person.

We don't have TV.

Choice was Dish or DSL.

DSL won.
