Speaking of shiny, my wife and I are about to commemorate 15 years together. She has been nagging about having a diamond to which I gave her an emerald ring (at least I know those aren't overvalued) but she still wants the piece of carbon. Any one has any idea what would be the cheapest place to buy one of those things?

Unfortunately internet trolls lack the diamond teeth of their wild relatives. Otherwise diamonds would be cheap as dirt (since few will decry the detoothing of these all too common infesters).

Still no real successes in growing them. Artificial diamonds are tiny, imperfect and useful only for abrasives. Iirc diamond coating is still far from perfect too.

They should try planting them in well-rotted pig manure.  They'd grow the size of turnips in that.

I may be strange (no news here) but I think diamonds are a bit overrated, especially the brilliant cut ones.

A nice size(not to big nor very small) emerald, princess or cushion cut one has its charm though, however a mass of brilliants just looks tacky IMHO it could as well be glass.
For really exiting gems check out the Alexandrine it changes colour due to the light conditions.
