Relief from the heat today; it's been mid to high 30's all week.  I slept in the basement last night, inside a tent to keep the spiders out.

Ending a week of broiling heat and FIRE DANGER EXTREMELY HIGH warning signs along the highway. Surrounding fires have burned hundreds of acres.

Well, at least there is not much of a risk of forest fire around here at the moment.

We've escaped drought so far due to sudden outbursts from the heavens. High heat around here, triggering evening thunderstorms.

At least the skies have been clear -- last week I came home in what *looked* like a thickening fog. It was smoke blowing in, we think, from Wyoming!

We're around 100F for the next three days.

All kinds of weather except cold still in these parts.
Rain is a sure bet but no one can say in advance when and where it will come each day.

Pouring again.

I was saying about the landslides blocking the railways.  It turns out that in Dorset a road tunnel was blocked a while ago; they just dug it out yesterday and found a couple dead in their flattened car.  They had been there for ten days.

This is officially the weirdest summer E V E R.

Most days goes like this: sunny beautiful early morning, cloudy late morning, thunder and heavy rain even hail at noon and a good part of the afternoon, then it clears up, and the evening is usually really nice albeit a bit cooler than July here usually are, the night is clear and then it starts all over again.

It rains so much that the rainwater overflows the sewer system, outside my window it's forming a shower head like fountain forcing water 25 cm up in the air and then displacing the cast iron manhole covering which it usually takes two men to lift.

This is not a normal summer in my little corner of the world.

A guy dug out my garden path and laid the hardcore three weeks ago.  Yesterday was the first day the forecast said dry enough to pour the concrete.  He laid it in dry weather and immediately covered it with tarpaulins - today it's raining hard again and we just hope the path will be OK.

Well, Darli, at least you've got a predictable pattern.

You'd think it would be good sleeping weather, but the humidity interferes a bit with the night's rest.

Our weather has been a fortunate mix of hot days followed by a rainy pattern. Some summers we have a bad drought. This one has been pretty well balanced so far.

I am sorry that some of my siblings are experiencing more challenging weather.
