The show is fiction.  The statistical analysis is real.

Fantastic analysis and I particularly like this conclusion:

QuoteDepending upon your approach, you could either doom the project, and future red-shirted crewmen, or you could be visiting planets full of peaceful alien women.

Although the statistics failed to show that 100% of these peaceful alien women were in soft focus so as to enhance their beauty:

...And they always turn out to be 400 years old, purple and possessing tentacles in the last reel.

Women were attracted to James T Kirk though.  An old girl friend of mine had a marvelous dad who was just like the scientist dad's you get the old science fiction films.  He and I used to love watching Star Trek and if the girls (my girlfriend and her sister) were there they'd always drool over Captain Kirk.

It was always Lieutenant Uhuru for me...she was never out of focus, although she may have gone wrinkly in one episode.

One thing I always liked about Uhura was that she never, ever "lost it" in a crisis.  Ever.

Kirk?  He lost his "way" any number of times, sometimes that was the episode.  Scotty?  He "lost it" nearly every episode: "me engines canna' tak noor moor 'o this".  Bones never much "had it".  Even Spock lost it a time or three.

But, Uhura?  She was always the face of calm and reason.... truly to be admired.   (should'a put HER in the captain's seat.... but then there wouldn't have been any plot, would there?  What with things going so smoothly an'all.....  ;D  ::)  )

Yep, but I think she'd be capable of giving you a tough time if you forgot to take the rubbish out; Not a rival for Felicity Kendall, Joan Armatrading or Kate Bush in the 70's babes stakes IMHO. I liked Chekov, cute and funny (but enough of my Russian men obsession).

Original series- favorite episode? not an easy one....

Best character ever: Lt. Worf-- Michael Dorn-- I have a thing for Klingons-there now you all know.
Saucy Gert Pettigrew at your service, head ale wench, ships captain, mayorial candidate, anthropologist, flirtation specialist.

Eddie Izzard also did a hilarious skit about the different settings you could have on a Star Trek Phaser:  You usually just get Stun or Kill but Izzard added:

Left the gas on at home setting
Feeling very depressed setting

and I think there were others...maybe that's on You Tube.

 pieces!  Thank you.... been thinking about the not-a-real-debate and I seriously needed a good belly-laugh.

Of the original series, I most identified with Spock.... go figure.   ::)

Of Next Gen?  Geordi LaForge was a character I liked.   Riker just annoyed the heck out of me.  I rather liked the SECOND doctor, not the one played by Gates McFadden, the other one.

But my absolute fav character was Gynan's character played by Whoppi Goldberg.  Too cool an alien.

Warf's character was good, once it was deepened a bit, from a flat stereotype.

And, yeah, I hated the first season security officer, too.   That short-haired blonde headed chick, the one who's response to EVERYTHING was, "let's nuke it...just in case"

"Captain!  I see by the instruments, there is a life form on the planet that may evolve into intelligence someday, and be a threat!  I have photon torpedoes loaded! Shall I fire?  We can easily destroy the planet from here.  Shall I fire?"

And Wesley Crusher?  The less said, the better.... the only character worse was Q

Worf developed into a very character.

But unexpectedly coming across him in an early episode --  :scared:
