mushfaker: Victorian colloquial.  An itinerant Bat Wing repairer who gathered up broken or damaged bats from the nearest belfry and using great skill and ingenuity made 'Good' or 'Faked' bats and released them back into the wild.  Any excess bat wings were made into umbrellas to be sold at Petticoat Lane market.  A now almost forgotten legend told of one 'Batwing Jack' a 'mushfaker' who went mad, created his own 'batwings' and flew about the London skyline praying on young ladies by stealing their purses and umbrellas.
