Mmm, if I recall correctly Aleksander Nevsky fought the Teutonic Knights...

First he fought the Swedes on the Neva river, which gave him his byname and the military bona fides to have him lead the forces against the Teutonic Knights (not actually the specific order of that name but one closely related, the Sword Brothers).

As for the Prussians: they just knicked the name from the exterminated earlier inhabitants of that area for political reasons. The original title of the Hohenzollern kings was King in Prussia not King of Prussia because Prussia was outside the Holy Roman Empire (HRE) and Brandenburg inside. Otherwise the Electors of Brandenburg would have become Kings of Brandenburg not Prussia. But there was a consent of 'no new kingly titles within the Empire'. Everyone who would want one had to seek it abroad. The Elector of Saxony became King of Poland, the ruler of Hannover King of England. Saxony become a kingdom only when Napoleon undid the HRE and almost got abolished totally when he fell (it would have become a Prussian province). Prussia dropped the ridiculous 'in not of' mid-reign of the 3rd king after the successful Silesian wars.

Well, the Mongols were already there for some time (and he learned from them).
And the Knights were on a crusade, behaving accordingly or even worse ('heretics' are hated much more than mere 'infidels').

The Russians have made a new film on the young Aleksandr a few years ago. It clearly pays homage to the old one in many aspects. I guess they did not dare to do a direct remake and instead chose the earlier conflict with the Swedes.
