I knew a cat named 'Chicken' in Denver. Her humans sat down with her and started down a list of possible names, while she listened attentively. When they reached 'chicken' (somewhat of a joke name by the child) she meowed and always responded to that name promptly.

I often wonder if our lives would be different if we had been given different names at birth. The naming has always seemed to me a practice which gives parents too much power. (I like my name).

After the golden yesterday it was cold and humid today (no rain though). Perfect for catching a cold or worse

Cold as all blankety-blank this morning. The heat pump had a hard time trying to get above 62 degrees F in the house.

More torrential rain again and floods everywhere.  The worst have been in the southwest peninsula, but near here there have also been roads and a railway closed.  The forecast is for a lot more rain.

The rain sweeps across the country like a diagonal sash which spares the south-east corner including London.

However, I only know this from TV news, as I am sleeping almost all hours and all I am aware of is my small room in which I cringe from life.

Seriously, I hope better weather comes your way. It's supposed to be quite clement for the long weekend here in the Ocean o'Sand, with colder waether and snow closing back in on Sunday night.

More torrential rain with a howling gale.  Flood warnings and road closures everywhere, some places are flooded for the third or fourth time this year.     It's getting boring, just like the 18-month drought we had before the rain came in April.

The village is OK and the main road to Hereford is open, however yesterday the alternative road was almost impassable.  Pretty soon the Lugg will flood and the road to the East will be cut again.

The wind is so strong that the kitchen stove (coal) is getting very hot although all controls are at minimum.  Soon I'll have to dump ten gallons of hot water or it'll boil.  It's not often the wind does that.
