In case anyone's missed it, Sarah Palin is McCain's running mate.

Politics makes *VERY* strange bedfellows, it seems...

One moment of crazy, lapsed judgment you can forgive, but theirs is shaping up to be a serial love-hate relationship!     :P

Maybe it's a relationship ordained by The Lord?

You know, just like global warming is part of God's plan for humankind and not something for us to worry about, as Mrs. Palin stated to reporters in an interview.

Now there is serious talk about a Palin/Bachmann ticket 2012

I wouldn't be surprised if the bet goes forward, Glenn Beck already said that Mitt Mormon is a socialist and any other prospect is either boring or as rabid (but with less followers). The chances are against her but even a slight possibility to have those in the WH is a coup on it's own.

In that case both famous quotes from Aliens would be appropriate.

I remember when Al Franken was flogging (tongue-in-cheek) for a Pat Buchanan/Bob Dornan Republican ticket. But the concept of a Palin/Bachman ticket is even more ... more ... something  ....

Sadly, I have friends & relatives who would blindly support them.    :-[

Ah Sarah Palin.
Suddenly I feel so much better about choosing between Brown and Cameron.

She worries me. I haven't been paying attention to the Republican blogosphere (because most of the time, it fills me with a mixture of rage, despair, and worry) so I don't know about her chances of scoring the nomination. Though she has been stumping for Bachmann, apparently;

As with Bush, the idea is to sound like a regular joe, (wo)man of the people and all that kind of stuff. The trick works with the current repugs as a large part of their larger constituency seems to have a lower average of academic achievement. It wouldn't work at the other side because being intelligent and articulate are desirable qualities with liberals.

The point is that they are not as stupid as they sound like, although on careful analysis you might get the hint that someone else is pulling the strings anyway.

In the case of Bachmann I am inclined to consider her really mad in a clinical sense.
Palin gives the impression of being mainly totally uninterested in the facts of the world. I don't think she is mentally retarded, just lazy and totally egocentric.
I don't know what to make of Glenn Beck. He displays many characteristics of a dry long-time alcoholic but has also been proven to fake part of his hysteria.
Limbaugh seems a total fake to me (apart from being a genuine asshole; he has not to fake that) who is actually well aware of the truth but knows that his recipe of success lies in..eh..lies.
And then there is the Newt that gives a bad name to all amphibians...
Ron Paul is again quite an enigma. His professed beliefs are a curious mix of common sense and crackpottery. There are some very nasty connections to extremists in his past (and through his son today). He seems quite intelligent. He seems to be rather consistent independent of the popularity of his views*. Is he genuine or just thinking long term (unlike the current standard GOPsters that can do multiple 180° turns within minutes)?

*He shares that with Pat Buchanan who on the other hand lacks Paul's affability and is 100% repulsive.

I'm starting to suspect Sarah Palin is actually trolling America. Moral troll is moral and all that.
Beck was, once upon a time, a pot head and an alcoholic. I think he's part nutter, part unintentional troll, part con-man.
Limbaugh is so full of bullshit, he should start a fertilizer company. I think some of it is genuine, but he probably exaggerates for his audience's sake.
Ron Paul, I think, is genuine and a little bit crazy. And I think he does thing in terms of long term, too.

I read a book on right wing Christians recently and I think it's got the idea -  they're by and large from the bottom rung of society and grew up in terribly dysfunctional homes and often in areas that have been devastated by our transition into a post-industrial society. Then they find Jesus in a cult form (I looked up all the traits of a cult and the churches most righties seem to follow check every single box).

The book, and some other, previous research, suggests that it's dominionists who are pulling the strings.*

*sounds kinda like a conspiracy theory, I know, but regardless a number of right wing Christian groups have undue influence in politics, including some who have Dominionist ties.

Look at some of Rachael Maddow's stuff on the secret group, The Family and their posh [nearly] rent-free digs for certain congress critters, C-street.

One such congress critter whined that his C-street "modest bed and bathroom" was mainly used for "prayer meetings and bible study"...... right.

The typical rent these C-critters pay, is $800-$900/month in digs that ought to fetch $1,600-2,000/month-- without the maid service.

So who is subsidizing these apartments?  The group that owns C-street?  (The Family, apparently...)

What does The Family get out of these low-rent, posh wait-hand-and-foot-including-massage services apartments?  Super-close ties to the politicians?   Their left nuts in a vice?  What?

<gag>
Sometimes, the real journey can only be taken by making a mistake.

my webpage-- alas, Cox deleted it--dead link... oh well ::)

You mean the maids who are actually interns?

"The Family" - kinda reminiscent of Charles Manson's Family, innit?
