In further good news for the Elephantine One, it is my first day at work in the Belfast. Off to do a badger survey shortly. Hooray! And I got an instant promotion. Came in to get sorted out for emails etc, and was told I was now a senior ecologist, due to qualifications and experience. I heartily recommend joining a company set up by one of your friends....

Anyways, what are you asking them ?   A survey of what they think of the pre-budget would be topical.

Easy. You just need statistics to show that 9 out of 10 badgers would welcome a new Tesco being built on their field. As the little fellows are quite shy you might have to help them with the answers.

Actually, the way the economy is going it might be proving that 9 out of 10 badgers and property developers want to knock down some houses and put up a cherry orchard.

Would have thought the same applied to badgers too. How do know you haven't counted the same one twenty times?  I suppose nailing the ones you've counted to a fence post breaks some green guideline or other.

Spare a thought for Pachyderm lurking in his field. If he's caught by either the RUC or IRA then he'll be lucky to get away with "I was counting badgers".

Meanwhile, I was "instantly" hired for an interim position related to my field and experience, which would mean survival if the other doesn't come through as planned. As the gods are first-class jokesters, I'm rather expecting  [and by "expecting" I mean "hoping"]  to get either a call-back or an offer on Monday, while I'm orf at me ovver newe jobbe.

OH naughty (but of course this is why I do love my sibling so)! Actually the get color coded leg bands or something--(like I have any sort of clue ) watch out for the musk Pachy.

Beagle, the way to tell if you have counted them or not?? Ask their mothers. A mother wouldn't lie, you know....

Beagle, I had thought of the situation re: people with guns. if it's the RUC or the Army, should be fine. They will just call the office, and all will be sorted. If it's the other mobs, half of them will shoot me for "spying on their arms caches", and the other half will shoot me for having an English accent. Protesting that I am a Scot in mellifluous tones might not be terribly effective.
