After a long interruption the Choral Squids are at it again!

Cthulhu's Call
OT: It's in the Rain
T: Roma Ryan (2005)
M: Enya

Every time
The night falls down
Close my eyes and listen
I can hear the eldritch sound
In the sky stars are right

Listen to the call
Of the Great Old One
Nothing can be done

Steps that rock
The trembling ground
Mountain walks or stumbles
In his way noone can stand
Old One comes, all things end

Hear Cthulhu's call...The call
Here it comes again...again
We will go insane...insane

Late at night
I see R'lyeh
I can hear Him/it calling
And His name drives me insane
Voice from waste whispering
Deep dark sea's mysteries

Even when
This nightmare ends
Can't let go this feeling
Everything will come to end
With that call comes downfall
In the sky stars are right
Hear his name, go insane

Cthulhu stirs tonight/The Cultists meet tonight

In the bayou, the foulest bayou

Hear the drumming, the wildest drumming
The cultists meet tonight
Hear the drumming, the wildest drumming
The cultists meet tonight

I-i-i-i-i-i-i-i-a fhtagn! (2x)

In the heavens, eternal heavens
The stars are right tonight
In the heavens, eternal heavens
The stars are right tonight

I-i-i-i-i-i-i-i-a fhtagn! (2x)
In the ocean, the deepest ocean
Cthulhu stirs tonight
In the ocean, the deepest ocean
Cthulhu stirs tonight

I-i-i-i-i-i-i-i-a fhtagn! (2x)

Hear ye cultists, rejoice ye cultists
Cthulhu wakes tonight

To the swamp again
OT: On the road again
T/M: Willie Nelson

To the swamp again
Just can't wait to get to the swamp again
The life I love is slaying victims with the cult
And in vile depravities there to exult
To the swamp again
Doin' rituals that are quite insane
Summon things that soon the world will reign again
And I can't wait to get to the swamp again
To the swamp again
As a band of half-breds we go down the bayou
We're the Old One's friends
Insisting that the world is for Cthulhu
And the stars
Will soon be right again
Just can't wait to get to the swamp again
The life I love is slaying victims with the cult
And in vile depravities there to exult
To the swamp again
As a band of half-breds we go down the bayou
We're the Old One's friends
Insisting that the world is for Cthulhu
And the stars
Will soon be right again
Just can't wait to get to the swamp again
The life I love is slaying victims with the cult
And I can't wait to get to the swamp again
And I can't wait to get to the swamp again

Iä, Iä, Nyarlathotep
OT: O come, O come, Emmanuel
M: Traditional (15th century)
T:John Mason Neale(1851), Henry Sloan Coffin(1916)

1.
Iä, Iä, Nyarlathotep1
Revert our world to ginunga gap2,3
We loathe the boring order here
O messenger of Azathoth appear

Chorus:
Return, return, Nyarlathotep
And lead us back to ginunga gap

2.
Iä, thou pharaoh4, through your leer
Our minds fail by thine advent here
With you come gloomy clouds of Doom
And madness' shadows over us loom

Chorus

3.
Iä, thou wizard from the void
Disorder all things and destroy
To us the path to ruin show
And cause us into the abyss to go

Chorus

4.

Iä, you turn all humans blind
They lose by your mere presence their mind
Bid envy, strife and quarrels to spread
Fill the whole world with chaos and death

Chorus

1 sing as Ny-a-ar-lat-ho-tep
2 sing as gi-i-nun-ga gap
3 ginunga gap: (lit: bottomless gape/yawn), the primordial chaos (gr.: gape/yawn) of Norse mythology, located between Muspelheim (fire) and Niflheim (ice). The gods built the ordered (=cosmos) world here but in the end it will revert to the chaos.
4 Nyarlathotep takes on the appearance of an Egyptian pharaoh when in human shape

Asenath
OT: Delilah
T/M: Les Reed, Barry Mason (1968)
sung by Tom Jones

I knew my fate was at stake with All Hallows approaching
I knew what Ephraim's daughter was seeking to find
She wants my body
She has deceived me, alas, and took over my mind
Asenath you scheming
Vile, blasphēmous demon
I now see that girl was no good for me
And I became just a slave that noone could free

At break of day with the servants away I was ready
Went up the steps to her room, softly opened the door
She stood there chanting
I swung the sconce1 with full force and she was no more
Asenath you scheming
Vile, blasphēmous demon
I was late, the fiend has now reached its² goal
Now it's in my body, her rotten corpse now holds my soul

(insert instrumental solo here)

I bring this message³
I am the thing on the step in front of your door
Asenath you scheming
Vile, blasphēmous demon
Now for you remains a task to fulfill
Go to the asylum her soul and/in/with my body to kill
Go to the asylum her soul and/in/with my body to kill

1 actually a candlestick but that doesn't fit the verse nor 'lamp' the tone
² gender unspecified since Asenath's body (too) was just an intermediate host
³ It's a bit paradoxical to sing the whole thing since Ed had to play zombie postman because he was not able to phone due to rotten vocal chords

Out of R'lyeh
OT: Die Lorelei
T: Heinrich Heine(1822), Tr.Frank (1998)
M: Friedrich Silcher(1837)

1.
You cannot imagine the meaning
Of horror that fills my breast
A nightmare of old has me screaming
Allows me no sleep and no rest
The heat of the night is mindnumbing
And stagnant lies the bayou
But out of the darkness sounds drumming
Cthulhu, calling for you

2.
The cultist surround the stone idol
They chant the words of the lore
The ecstasy soon is unbridled
And ev'rything spattered with gore
The victims they roast on the fire
Their entrails spread far and wide
And seized by convulsions the choir
For sure it's no pretty sight

3.
The stars they are right after ages
And He who so long has slept
Cthulhu the Great Old One wakes
R'lyeh comes up from the depths
Mankind he will slay and devour
Him noone can defy
|: His rise marks our final hour
We are all going to die :|

Great Old One
OT: Herzilein
T/M: Carola & Burkhard Lüdtke (1989)
popular through: Wildecker Herzbuben/Rudolf Rock und die Schocker

1.
After some slaughter with fellow cultists
And chanting all the night
In the heavens after eons
The stars once again are right
The earth is shaking
For He is waking
Who slept in dark R'lyeh
Still His dreaming
Just causes screaming
But soon will come His day

And now I call out loud:
"Cthulhu
The cultists call to you
In Greenland and by the bayou
Awake and rise in goo!"

And you will answer us:
"Human worm
I soon will make you squirm
My MO is slash, hack and burn
Now it's the Old One's turn"

2.
We board the Alert
Her course is southward
And right into the storm
"Iä, Dagon
And mother Hydra
We'll see R'leyh by morn!"
There is the island
The Deep Ones' city
Come on, let's go ashore
Cyclopean
non-Euclidian
His tomb's  wide open door

And we now call out loud:
"Great Old One
Now you at last have come
Against you no fight can be won
Mankind will soon be gone"

But you now say to us:
"Mortal worm
You still have a lesson to learn
You first I will slash, hack and burn"
What an unfortunate turn!

(Spoken):
Just a minute, Cthulhu!
We kept your cult alive for strange endless eons while you laid there lazy in your sleep
and now it's not us together commiting mass slaughter and exulting in depravity but us eaten first? Will you be really such a spoilsport?

Again we call out loud:
"Great Old One
Now you at last have come
Against you no fight can be won
Mankind will soon be gone"

But you still say to us:
"Mortal worm
You still have a lesson to learn
You first I will slash, hack and burn"
What an unfortunate turn!
What an unfortunate turn!

This Idol is a Hideous Thing
OT: Dies Bildnis ist bezaubernd schön
(aria of Tamino from The Magic Flute)
T: Johann Joseph (later Emanuel) Schikaneder (1791?)
M: Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1791)

English:
This idol is a hideous thing
As no sane eye has ever seen
It haunts me, it taunts me
By this hellish rock
My hea-a-art is paralyzed wi-ith shock
My hea-art i-is paralyzed wi-ith shock
I-its na-ame I barely dare to utter
Just the sound o-of it it makes me shudder
Should this vile idol here show Cthulhu?
Shou-uld this vile I-i-do-ol here show Cthulhu?
I-ä, Cthulhu it i-is you
Cthulhu, Cthulhu, Cthu-ulhu it must be you
Oh, that it just were a mere e-error
That fills my heart with nameless te-error
I cho-oke, cho-oke wet with sweat
What cho-okes me?
Almost I feel it, with cold sweat dri-ipping
His sharpened cla-aws
Through my mortal body ri-ipping
And neverending be the pain
And ne-e-ver-e-en-di-ing be the-e pain
And ne-e-ver-e-end-ding be the pa-ain
Ne-ver-e-en-di-ing be-e the-e pa-in
Ne-ver-e-en-di-ing be-e the-e pa-in

German:
Wie mir vor diesem Bildnis graut
Der Wahnsinn packt den, der es schaut
Es hetzt mich, entsetzt mich
Wie dies Höllenbild
Mein He-e-erz mit hellem Wa-hansinn füllt
Mein He-erz mit hellem Wa-hansinn füllt
De-hen Na-hamen mag ich zwar kaum sagen
Sch-hon der Kla-hang ist kaum zu ertragen
Sollt dieses Monster wohl Cthulhu sein?
So-hollt dieses Monster wo-hohl Cthulhu sein?
I-ä, Cthulhu ist's allein
Cthulhu, Cthulhu, Cthu-ulhu ist's allein
Oh, wenn es doch ein Irrtum wä-häre
Oh, wenn es doch nur wär' Schimä-äre1
Ich wü-ürge, wü-ürge, naß von Schweiß
Was würgt mich?
ich würge vo-or blankem Entse-hetzen
Daß diese scharfen
Krallen mi-i-ich zer-fe-etzen
Und ewig währte meine Pein
Und e-he-he-he-wig währte meine-he Pein
Und e-he-wi-ig währte meine Pei-hein
Ewig wä-här-te-e mei-hei-ne-e Pei-hein
Ewig wä-här-te-e mei-hei-ne-e Pei-hein

1 not the Greek Chimaira (although that would still be an improvement compared to the real Cthulhu) but a metaphor for delusion or figment of imagination

Shaggy the Shoggoth
OT: Frosty the Snowman
T/M: Walter "Jack" Rollins and  Steve Nelson(1950)

Shaggy the Shoggoth
Was a protoplasmic ball
He had pseudopods
And he smelled of rot/like cod
Was at least six metres tall

Shaggy the Shoggoth
Is no fairy tale, I say
You'll be filled with fear
When he comes near
For he reeks of foul decay

There must have been
Some madness in
Those Elders that made you
For as their slave
You should behave
And not mime Great Cthulhu

Oh, Shaggy the Shoggoth
Was a creature right from Hell
Who arose in style
From the nightmares vile
Of the author HPL

Oh tekke-li-li
Oh tekke-li-li
See ol' Shaggy ooze

Oh tekke-li-li
Oh tekke-li-li
Beware when he breaks loose

Shaggy the Shoggoth
Heard that humans came this day
So he thought "Let's run
And I'll have some fun
Now before they get away."

Up through the tunnel
Crushing penguins in his path
Seeking human flesh
To rip, tear and slash
Shrieking "Mortals feel my wrath!"

He chased them down
The streets of town
Right to their waiting plane
And he only paused
Once he had caused
Them all to go insane

Then Shaggy the Shoggoth
Had to hurry on his way
But he waved a lot
With his pseudopods
"I'll get all of you some day!"

Oh tekke-li-li
Oh tekke-li-li
See ol' Shaggy rant

Oh tekke-li-li
Oh tekke-li-li
He'll get you in the end.

There is actually little known about the emotional life of shoggoths. Attempts to psychoanalyze those hypertrophic amoebas produced some mad and/or dead Freudians but not much useful data. Whether terms like "wrath" or "having fun" have any meaning to them is therefore unknown. That does not change the fact that they seem to have a predilection for ripping living things, motivation or other crap like that be damned. You better watch out...

Cthulhu lies under the ocean
OT: My Bonnie lies over the ocean
T/M: Scottish traditional

Cthulhu lies under the ocean
Cthulhu sleeps down in R'lyeh
Observing celestial motion
Expecting to wake any day

Wake up, wake up
Oh wake up Cthulhu my dear, my dear
Wake up, wake up
Oh wake up and fill us/me with fear

Last night when I lay on my pillow
Last night when I lay in my bed
I saw the dark sea's rising billow/ Cthulhu arose from the billow
Oh what horrid nightmare I had

Nightmare, nightmare
Cthulhu arose from the sea, the sea
Nightmare, nightmare
He bellowed and then came for me

I woke up hysteric'lly screaming
I ran out and into the night
I found there was truth in my dreaming
I saw that the stars were a-right

Fateful, fateful
The pale stars are spelling our doom, our doom
Hateful, hateful
Cthulhu will come for us soon

Oh praise Mother Hydra and Dagon
And join/sing with the vile cultist scum
"Ph'nglui wgah'nagl fhtagn!"
For fin'lly Cthulhu has come

Come back, come back
The Old One has come back to/for me and you
Come back, come back
Returned has the Great Cthulhu

#82
The same dark desire
OT: A Place in the Choir
T/M: Bill Staines

Refr.
All Mythos Things have the same dark desire
Some dead calm, some full of ire
Be they aquatic or out of the fire
They all wet their hands or claws or tentacles with blood now

Refr.

Listen to the call it's the one from sea bottom
Where Cthulhu dreams in his city rotten
Where Dagon is and Hydra too
And the Deep Ones drip with goo
The rats in the walls they run to the cellar
And their head Brown Jenkin he's not a nice fella
The Shoggoth cries and the Shantak flies
And the Byakhee does/flies too

Refr.

Hail Shub-Niggurath, the black goat that's so fertile
Fear the Crawling Chaos, who is full of guile
And the flying squids fight the Race of Yith
Mi-Go flap through outer space
Slimy Rhan-Tegoth he's frozen to the bone
See the yellow-clad priest as he sits on his throne
Ghatanothoa turns you to stone
And the Night-Gaunt has no face

Refr.

It's a cruel bunch, a bloody one, yea all the lot
Azathoth, Yog Sothoth, ev'ry Elder God
The Whisperer in Darkness, they are all the same
The vile old Hastur, please don't speak his name

At the Rising of Cthulhu
OT: The Holly and the Ivy
T/M: Henry R. Bramley, John Stainer

Cthulhu and his Star Spawn
Though/Now both are fast asleep
When the stars are right up there in the sky
They'll rise up from the Deep

Refr.
At the rising of Cthulhu
You will run away in fear
The slaying of the helpless humans
Is an awful sight, my/oh dear

Cthulhu's hide is scaly
As that of any snake
And when he wakes up from his sleep
His revenge he will take

Refr.

Cthulhu's wings are stubby
And like that of a bat
And when he wakes up from his sleep
We soon will all be dead

Refr.

Cthulhu's head is pulpy
With tentacles so gross
And when he wakes up from his sleep
He will show us who is boss

Refr.

Cthulhu has long talons
His claws are very sharp
And when he wakes up from his sleep
He will rip us all apart

Refr.

Cthulhu plays the fiddle
And paints like Paul Degas
(And) all the stories that old Lovecraft wrote
They are just propaganda

Cthulhu he is Jewish
And even a rabbi
And the rumor that he swallows souls
Is just a big fat lie

Tibiae dissonant
OT: Personent Hodie
T: Piae Cantones 1582
M: German trad. 14th century

Tibiae dissonant
Dementiti saltant
Et tympana pulsant
Movent circum thronum
Sed non audit sonum
Azathoth-thoth-thoth (2x)
Azathoth insanus
Princeps daemonorum/est daemonum1

Chaos scatens divus
Insani nuntius

Translation:
The flutes shriek
The brain/mindless dance
And beat the drums
They move around the throne
But he does not listen
Azathoth the mad
(Who is) The Demon Sultan

Crawling Chaos, a divine being
Messenger of the Insane One (=Azathoth)
Enemy of the world
Reviles (against) the gods
Sets traps
In the shape of a pharaoh
He seduces the rash

When the cultists rant
The cult leaders swear
The mad are in delirium
(Then) <gender pronoun>2 is invoked
The extremly fertile monster
The black goat of the wood
Who has a thousand young

The Old One has returned
Who has slept long
From R'lyeh he emerges
The storm is howling
Cthulhu gets angry
Perish will mankind's power

1 the latter is the correct Latin form (daemo, daemonis), the former is derived from the simpler but ahistoric form (daemonus, daemoni)
2 The gender of Shub-Niggurath is not completely clear and neither is the Latin text here. Ille is male (otherwise the rhyme would fail), monstrum neutral, and capra female

With a little spill of blood
OT: With a little bit of luck (From "My Fair Lady")
T: Alan Jay Lerner
M: Frederick Loewe

The other gods ruled with a fist or iron
The Great Old Ones they banned beyond world's rim
The other gods ruled with a fist of iron
But with a little spill of blood and a little spill of guts
Great Old Ones will soon be back right in

Chorus:
With a little spill, with a little kill
With a little spill of gore they'll be back in

The Deep Ones come on land for man to marry
To bear their spawn as custom is of old
The Deep Ones come on land for man to marry
And for a little spill of blood and a little spill of guts
They will also bring some fish and gold

Chorus:
With a little spill, with a little kill
For a little spill of gore they'll bring the gold

Oh you can split the bones for marrow
But for a little spill of blood they'll run amok

The world is full of foul abominations
Some shoggoths here and moon beasts over there
The world is full of foul abominations
So a mere little spill of blood or a little spill of guts
Should be nothing that could leave you scared

Chorus:
Just a little spill or a little kill
Should be nothing that could leave you scared

Cthulhu now sleeps in his burrow
But expect oceans full of blood when he wakes up

The ghastly ghouls are actually quite social
Become their friend and they help you in need
The ghastly ghouls are actually quite social
But the fact they feast on guts and they have a face like dogs
Did not serve their rep so well indeed

Chorus:
That they feat on guts, that they look like dogs
That it is fresh human corpses that they eat
That they feat on guts, that they look like dogs
Did not do their rep much good indeed

I tell you man, your time will soon be over
The Old Ones come to rule the world once more
I tell you man, your time will soon be over
They will spill all human blood after driving us all nuts
And the world will drown in blood and gore

Chorus:
They will drive us nuts and then spill our guts
They will drink our blood and take a bath in gore
They will drive us nuts and then spill our guts
When the Old Ones rule the world once more

Up from the Deep
OT: Die Wacht am Rhein
T: Max Schneckenburger 1840
M: Karl Wilhelm 1854

Around the world a call is heard
From mouth to mouth is passed the word
Iä, Iä Shub-Niggurath
Approaching is the Day of Wrath

Refr.:
Cthulhu will soon wake from sleep (2x)
And he will rise again up from the deep(2x)

The cultists they all hear the call
And round the idols gather all
Who plead allegiance to the Old
Who's come-back is by stars foretold

Refr.

Dead's not what can eternal lie
And in the end Death too may die
The eons have been strange and long
But never silent fell our song

Refr.

In Southern swamp, in Northern ice
Resound the victim's dying/mortal cries
The drums we beat and fires burn
Oh Lord, to honour thy return

Refr.

The storm it howls, the ground it quakes
The very world's foundations shake
R'lyeh is breaking through the swell
Cyclopean dark citadel

Refr.

Oh mankind, know thy rule is frail
Where Old Ones rule all else will fail
You upstarts don't have any chance
So come and join the final dance
Cthulhu's sight will turn us mad (2x)
That does not matter cause we'll soon be dead
It does not matter though cause we'll be dead

Oh when the cult (meets in the swamp)
OT: Oh when the saints go marching in
T/M: traditional (first published by Edward Boatner 1927)

1.
Oh when the cult meets in the swamp
Oh when the cult meets in the swamp
Wake up, Cthulhu, from your slumber
(alt: Cthulhu do wake up from slumber/Oh Great Cthulhu wake from slumber)
When the cult meets in the swamp

2.
Oh when the fires start to burn
Oh when the fires start to burn
Wake up, Cthulhu, from your slumber
When the fires start to burn

3. ...the drums begin to beat
4. ...the flutes begin to shriek
5. ...the idol is unveiled
6. ...the choir starts to chant/howl
7. ...the ill-breds start to dance
8. ...the victims start to cry
9. ...the Black-Wings* start to feast
10. ...the stars are right again

11.
Oh when Cthulhu rules again
Oh when Cthulhu rules again
He'll do away with all things human
Iä Cthulhu fhtagn
He'll do away with all things human
Iä Cthulhu fhtagn!!!

*According to the captured cultists interrogated by Inspector Legrasse the victims were maimed and killed by Black-Winged Ones coming from the wood. The veracity of that statement is doubted by the police authorities though.

Going Mad
OT: Going Home
T: William Arms Fisher, Ken Bible (authorship under dispute)
M: Antonin Dvořak based on trad. tune

Going mad, going mad
I am going mad
Stars are right in the sky
And I'm going mad

He's not far, just close by
Past that open door
We are done, going to die
Are of use no more

Monster's there expecting us
Salivating too
Lots of folk gathered here
All will end as stew (2x)

I-ä, I-ä, I'm going mad

All is lost, in vain
Now comes death in pain
Mountain stumbling* out the gate
Foaming, howling, full of hate
Bound by spells no more

Darkness drives light away
Endless night has come
Shadows rise, no  more day,
They devour/engulf the sun

There's no break, there's no end
Just the Great Old One
Wide awake, full of guile
He and his Star-Spawn

Going mad, going mad
I am going mad
He's not far, just close by
Past that open door
I am going mad
Going mad...

* "The thing cannot be described. [...] A mountain walked or stumbled"

Obed Marsh the Trader
OT: Puff the Magic Dragon
T/M: Leonard Lipton, Peter Yarrow
Recorded by "Peter, Paul and Mary" 1962

Obed Marsh the trader sailed overseas
And bartered with the island folks in the land of Kanaky
Old chief Malakea told him a strange tale
Of beings that live underseas that bring him gold so pale

Obed Marsh he listened, learned the chants of old
Of how to lure the Deep Ones in to bring you fish and gold
Chief gave him a token, Malakea did
"With this you'll find them ev'rywhere and make them do your bid."

Long went on the trading and the Sumatra Queen
Has in the land of Kanaky for many years been seen
But on her final voyage what Marsh did find was sad
The islands were deserted all and Malakea dead

Obed Marsh sailed homewards, he was full of grief
For trade he lost that was so rich and for his friend the chief
He returned to Innsmouth where he was at home
And never in his life again abroad he went to roam

But then he remembered the strange gift from the chief
And late that night he took his boat, set course for Devil Reef
There he threw the token down into the abyss
The Deep Ones rose up from the sea and asked "What do you wish?"

Obed Marsh was happy about this turn of luck
For with the fishmen on his side again rolled in the buck
Now he worships Hydra, prays to old Dagon
Is fond of human sacrifice and breeding of the spawn

Old Man Marsh they call him, he will never die
He will transform to Deep One shape, live in Y'ha-nthlei
Old Man Marsh they call him, he will never die
He will transform to Deep One shape, live in Y'ha-nthlei

The Shoggoth Song
OT: The Llama Song
T/M: Burton Earny

Hear a shoggoth
Fear a shoggoth
Torn to shreds by eerie shoggoths
Slimy shoggoth
Smelly shoggoth
Shoggoth, shoggoth
Fish
Shoggoth, shoggoth
Fearsome shoggoth
Twenty foot amoeba shoggoth
Shoggoth, shoggoth
Mighty shoggoth
Shoggoth, shoggoth
Fish
Elder Things created
Protoplasmic slaves
But the wretched things rebelled
And chased them into caves
I came to their city old
There I read their tale
Then I  searched the lower halls
Heard an eldritch wail
Did you ever hear a shoggoth?
See a shoggoth?
Met a shoggoth?
Shoggoth, shoggoth
Smell of shoggoth
Shoggoth, shoggoth
Fish
Ancient shoggoth
Twisted shoggoth
Rotten shoggoth
Farting shoggoth
Shoggoth in a cave
So shocking
Shoggoth, shoggoth
Fish
What comes round the corner?
Has it pseudopods?
Is it made of caustic slime?
Help me, all ye gods!
Now the thing is getting near
Smells of rotten fish
Time for me to meet my fate
End as shoggoth dish
