Kiyoodle the Gambrinous

If you think like a beer, does that mean you want to be drunk empty?

Where are the vampires now?

Sleep negligible this night. Just finished the last/latest Harry Potter in ca. 15 hours (i.e. about 40 pages per hour).
My predictions turned out to be almost completely wrong, the book is far more complex and unprdiictable than I had expected.
The claim that 2 main characters die falls far short of the real body count and I defy you to predict any death with certainty more than a few pages before it occurs (at best).

The fundie attacks will be especially vicious this time due to among other things the symbol of the Deathly Hallows.

Last what purpose remains in life now that it is over ;) Post

Warning: Don't check the wikipedia entry for the new Harry Potter. It gives a detailed description of the plot.
For me a colleague spoiled a bit of the fun by revealing what he had found on the net but fortunately not certain crucial details.

It will probably be quite costly (even in comparision) to make the movie. The number of essential characters is huge, as is the number of locations. And there are a lot of scenes with crowds.

Last I hope this is vague enough not to be spoilering* Post

*it would of course be a spoiler that all of it turns out to be a dream and Harry is actually suffering from an overdose of late-night TV ;)

I haven't read a single HP book and haven't seen any of the movies.

I don't know why,  but I'm somehow refuse to read it... Something deep inside me doesn't want to...

(Kiyo)and not reading them does not make one weird-- just a non-conforming non-conformist and that is a good thing to be. And after all you do get to see the Stones today(Sunday righto? or are you in a different day zone than me?)

I missed the early Potter hype and came to the books through a newspaper article (somewhere between the publication of Vol. 2 and 3). I bought the first as a paperback and found it interesting but not world-shattering*. It was at least enough to also buy the second. Given that the authoress' skill visibly increased from book to book, it kept me increasingly hooked.
I consider the saga very well-written and clearly suitable also for adults (though of course it is not Kipling).
The movies are not bad (especially compared to some Disney stuff) but not must-sees in my opinion.
I think non-readers should at least get a bit of basic info about the books (e.g. checking wikipedia) but that's optional and just to avoid to be the only "ignorant" in a group (Hey, a (Western) atheist should at least have basic knowledge of the Bible)

I read the first two when they were still fairly unknown outside Britain.  They seemed like Enid Blyton or Jennings on LSD. At least as far as the clever creative ideas like the sorting hat and so on were concerned. Dropped out after the third one (ok, I admit it, they were too scary and beyond my reading age).
