Lack of space and resources prevents anything on such a scale.
Even the pen and paper pre-drawings I do for the fake ones quickly hit limits and I have to split them up into scannable parts.
Looking closely you can still spot the imperfect fits between the four components used for the snake.

Currently working on a creature with a few more legs.
I will attach the pre-drawing and add the finished product later
(and, yes, it's based on a photo of the real thing taken from the internet)

Edit: sketch for a planned mega mosaic project. The letters are to be replaced by pictures of animals whose Latin word starts with that letter (e.g. an eagle for A, aquila or a horse for E, equus).
