Unfortunately I missed the whole speech. There's a strange anomaly on my video recorder where there's just a gap in the frame in recordings where GB should be standing.  I gather though that the scariest aspect is he's imported "glowing reviews from unbiased family members" into conferences.  Still, at least his wife still seems to like him, which must be some compensation.

Yes. It's like the bit in Cabaret..... if you could see (him) like I do, (he) wouldn't look churlish at all

The Nazgûl are being recalled to Downing Street. Now I'm scared.

More than scared.

And the M guy cannot even fill in forms properly. I know I can't either but that's why I need a Government. How many resignations does it take to form a government?

Even scarier, one suggested solution to the M guy not being accountable to anyone...... is to send him Upstairs. And we thought Cash for Honours was bad.

And we have no policemenpeople.......

Sadly, things can get worse.

EDIT:

just seen Nick Robinson newslog on BBC site:   "Margaret Beckett - to be cabinet enforcer"

that was yesterday morning, and things have moved on somewhat, but what - one dreads to think - is a cabinet enforcer?

Not too sure what a cabinet enforcer does. I suspect it involves unimaginable pain though.

Stroke of genius GB moving Milliband to the "Energy and Climate Change" post. All the climate change policies will be unpopular, and the lights are in danger of going out this winter as the National Grid has less than a Gigawatt spare capacity.

Question: is the UK interconnected with the continental grid? Can you buy power from France if the need arises?

Yep, and we do a lot of the time. Greenpeace are fighting like mad to stop coal and nuclear here, with the end result that only insignificant new capacity has been added in decades, and the previous generation of our own nuclear stations are reaching their retirement age. Consequently we import it from France, who have been generating the majority (80%+) of their power from nuclear for decades.

It's the same with gas. We can get it through the interconnector to top up North Sea supplies.  The problem is that we're at the end of the chain, and Putin is near the other end of it.

Another issue with importing both electricity and gas is that the suppliers service their own markets first, and in the event of a bad winter, or Putin sabre-rattling, supplies will dry up, and spot market prices will go through the roof.

So the Tories need a heavy weight and Ken is back !!!

I might actually start enjoying the fights now, and it says a lot when they start turning the clock back to cope with the present (I deliberately ignore Mandelson).

In other news, I now (part) own RBS and am going to start charging the banks for lending money out. ;D

Hey Beagle !

Did you watch the blessed Margaret drama?

Or could you not face watching her downfall?

I found it dull and lacklustre and switched off after giving it a fair chance to improve, which it didn't

Here's today's Grauniad offering to cheer Beagle's day today.......

Meanwhile, my old school has confirmed cases of Swine Flu but never fear, today is the day the government leaflet telling me how to avoid catching it - by putting paper bags over my head - will drop through my letter box..... I am eagerly awaiting it before risking a trip to the shop down the road.....

Yes. Find the Tardis and travel back to before you spilt the tea. I assume it is the liquid beverage and not cucumber sandwiches and cake as obviuosly the method would difffer.

;D

sadly there is not a lot one can do - (laptop) keyboards are sensitive beasts. you could try turning it upside down and see what runs out...... or use cocktail sticks with teeny tiny cotton buds stuck on to probe....... you are likely to make any problems worse though.....

The day has worsened. No flipping leaflet to help me avoid Swine Flu has arrived and meanwhile I discovered myself washing the soap before using it to wash my hands.
