Well, that actually makes more sense, and it's the humans that have it muddled.  A sunny day (and a shadow) always suggested more good weather to me when I was a young'un.  The 'hog is probably hustling back to get the spring cleaning done.

Yesterday was 42oC (108oF) Today a much more reasonable, although still quite warm 30oC (86oF).  Heading back into the high 30s/low 40s later this week.  Yuk.

Punxatawney Phil predicts that spring is just around the corner, and so far it has seemed a little more springy. I even saw some daffodil leaves popping up in the  snow today.

Balzac Billy bucked consensus and is calling for 6 more whatevers of winter*.  Surprise, surprise - spring in mid-March is not likely, let alone early February.

*likely months, but I'd settle for fortnights, which is approximately correct; we often get a good dump of snow sometime in May, but I'll be out west by then.

that is actually Punxatawney Phyllis!!!

Spring is coming! Spring is coming!

The sun is out, the wind is blowing, the thermometer on my front (southside) porch is reading 62 degrees F. Joy.

Temperatures low but tolerable. The problem is what I call the x-ray wind.

I hear hagfish leather is the newest in decadent fashion.
I think I remember that polar bears have the best insulation. Allegedly their main body does not show up on infrared cameras.

Go Bears!

Awful winds last night kept us awake, but I am hoping they are a harbinger of spring. They have calmed this morning. Today's highs are in the upper 40's F.

We had a spell of spring-like weather in january with temperatures of +7-9 degrees, sunshine and twittering birds. At the end of last week, the spell broke, and we have been having -15 to -20 and heavy snowfall since then.
