Yes, autumn is coming.  Cloudy today but the breeze is warm rather than hot.  We actually went for a litle walk.

Lindorm

We actually had literally lethal weather here in Stockholm yesterday. It was quite hot, about 30 degrees during daytime and 22-23 around midnight, with a really high humidity -fog levels, more or less. Yesterday night was also the night when the annual "Midnattsloppet" , "The Midnight Run" is held in Stockholm -a huge long-distance run taking place on shut-off streets during the late night. This year, they had an attendance of about 22000 runners and several times that attending as spectators. Due to the very high humidity, lots of runners suffered from exhaustion, heat-stroke and abnormal fatigue, and two runners actually died -one in his fifties from a heart attack, and one in his twenties that just collapsed at the finishing line. I was out on town and in the area at the time, and actually witnessed the emergency vehicles as they made their way to the causalty. Apparently, the A&E wards of the nearby hospitals had to treat quite a few cases of exhaustion and heart irregularities, too. I suppose those poor runners got so caught up in their running that they didn't notice their bodies signalling to them to slow down until it was too late.  :(

Ooo-er.  People get so single-minded about these runs.

Opsa

It's been very nice here for the past week. We seem to be out of our 90 F degree doldrums. Could use some more rain, though.

Aggie

Please take some - work has been delayed drastically this year due to the weather, and I've been hearing rumours of billion-dollar crop failures (rain ruined the seeding, lack of sun delayed crop growth, and rain is holding up the harvest - it's likely frost will hit first and leave tonnes of food to rot).

Few major monsoons, but we might have had 5 days of summer, total.  :P
WWDDD?

Knurrhähne sind eßbar aber empfehlen würde ich das nicht unbedingt.
The aspitriglos is edible though I do not actually recommend it.

To heck with the Alaskan pipeline. We need to install some kinda drain system between the US and Canada.

Aggie

 :stick:

That's a touchy subject, and I'd advise you against mentioning any type of water-exporting schemes to a Canadian.

But on a personal level, can I mail you a barrel of rain?

I thought you already had such a device and that it was called the Niagara falls... :P ;)

We have several, but there is much fear and loathing towards any mention of formalized water exports (i.e. guaranteed water quotas) to the US.  Take our oil instead, please. ;)
WWDDD?

Opsa

I plead ignorance!

I was thinking of a water exchange, actually, since we sometimes are the ones with the floods.

Don't mention any offers of oil to the USers, though. We'll bleed you dry and then pollute you trying to get more. Jeez, I wish we could just toss the whole unfortunate oil dependence and put the US dollars towards cleaner, less invasive energy.

Yeah, I know. Big. powerful (and obsolete) oil companies. I'm hoping that the smart ones are investing in alternatives.

OOPS! We have high 80 F expected and a possibility of showers today.

Aggie

Don't worry, U(s) are bleeding us dry and polluting us, then protesting about the oilsands being too dirty ('scuse me, but until the US is off Venezuelan heavy crude, I fail to appreciate the difference - not that I support the oilsands, but let's be honest about what and where from the US is importing).   I don't suppose those are for satisfying domestic Canadian demand, eh?

I knew about the tar sand abomination for quite some time (and closely avoided getting a job offer for that) but more in the abstract sense.
Two weeks a go I saw a documentary film ('Petropolis') about it consisting mainly of aerial shots putting it into perspective.
Let's put it that way: The surface of the moon looks more hospitable. Hey, even our East German opencast brown coal mines look (a wee bit) healthier.

Sad!

We finally got a bit of rain yesterday, and this weekend is supposed to be gorgeous!
