EDR have agreed a deal to buy (most of) our nuclear power stations and propose building 4 more on British soil.

This will give the French business control of at least 18% of our electricity.

Semantics (power) - perhaps not !

The refusal of the "Common Market" to open up continental utilities to UK purchase in the way ours are to their purchase has been a bugbear for some time.
To be fair though the French are very good at nuclear power and technological projects in general.  If they wanted a fast straight railway line between Paris and Nice with nuclear power stations every sixty miles they'd just build it, not spend twenty years holding public enquiries.

Still Greenpeace should be pleased. Think of all that CO2 saved. ;D

At least it's not the Russians...keep em interested in football I say.

Russian football hooligans attacking French nuclear power stations in the UK?

The future looks grim.

I don't dislike the French, I just wouldn't want to share a superstate with them.  In fact the English Channel is the most convincing argument I've heard for Intelligent Design.

Here's the Telegraph view.

Re. The Channel, your theory of ID is shot with holes. Our land mass used to be joined to their land mass via Denmark. As it is today by tunnel. Remember the rabies scare?

That's only true if you believe the Earth is very old, but those clever American IDers assure us it's only slightly older than Peter Stringfellow.

As the archbishops pointed out yesterday, it's a big mistake to build a huge organisation on something mysterious and badly understood.  :)

Are you suggesting that the Knights Templar invented lap dancing?

Well when they joined up they weren't allowed to take their wives (as it were), so it's a distinct, if somewhat heretical, possibility.

I do hope the electricity bills are only in O-level (rather than machine-gun-guttural) French, or my lights will be going out. Actually, the way the U.S. politicans are faffing about that will probably happen anyway. Perhaps when the ATMs don't work and the supermarkets are empty they'll wake up.

Well clearly there is evidence to support your claim:

They would strip down to their battle armour whilst trampling a swan.

I don't think it's fair to make Zono do penance. I think he is on to something. After all, it directly links with Beagle's fears about ATMs. Simon Templar is known as a subversive from his poetic rendering of the evil of the Inland Revenue in their pursuit of his poetic novellas and his discovery of new uses for toothpaste. The possibility of those clever Frenchies utilising toothepaste for enriching nuclear reactors should not be lost on us. Consider the white blob above his head. I for one do not believe he was just blowing smoke rings.

That was the scheme when he used the alias Thomas Apollonia More, for the patron saints of dentistry and government employees.
