It was a coin toss between the critically acclaimed BBC thriller, Terror of the Zygons and Lathe of Heaven.

Lathe won.

L'Odissea (1969 TV mini series)
I agree with the critics that this is the best adaption of the epic yet and likely to remain
Knurrhähne sind eßbar aber empfehlen würde ich das nicht unbedingt.
The aspitriglos is edible though I do not actually recommend it.

Nightmare Before Christmas is on TCM

When that originally was shown in the cinemas over here I thought it was a horror film (and at that time I was not into that stuff at all). But I think at the time I would not have been able to really appreciate it even without that misconception.
For that matter, as a child I found no appeal in the muppet show. Now I like it but also know why I didn't then

Have you seen it?  Actually, (don't tell anyone) I cried.  It all happened when I was about 20 and Joy Division (especially "Unknown Pleasures" and "Closer") were huge albums with my set of friends. In fact Unknown Pleasures* is still probably the best album ever made IMHO, (closely followed by Meddle or Dark Side).
It was clear then that Curtis was a true original, like Syd Barrett, Roy Harper or Jim Morrison, and I think Sam Riley really caught his look and manner.  Samantha Morton also seemed to totally capture a sweet down to earth northern girl who, try as she might, couldn't save him from his demons.

Not so sure about the implication that it was the success and prospect of a U.S. tour that pushed him over the edge.  It was all there in the lyrics of New Dawn Fades, amongst others.

The DVD came with Deborah Curtis's book "Touching from a Distance" so it will be interesting to see how the two compare. My understanding is they tried to keep it realistic (freezing transits with bust heaters rather than the "glamour" of rock and roll).

* For the uninitiated. Do not play this if you are prone to depression. Seriously.

No, I haven't seen it yet but I'm going to. I guess I'm going to cry too.

I discovered Joy Division when I was about 18 (in the early 90's). I still listen to them now and then but not 24/7 like when I was younger and when I list my favourite songs there are plenty of J D songs among them.

Quote* For the uninitiated. Do not play this if you are prone to depression. Seriously.

Yes and no. I'm prone to depression and has always been and I was in a even worse state when I was 18 than I'm now, not as stable by far... Joy Division's music helped me put words on a lot of feelings, sooth a lot of pain, it sort of carried me through my late teens and early twenties.

I'd say Unknown Pleasures is one of the best album ever made IMHO too and New Dawn Fades one of the best songs.
I'm not rateing the songs, other favourites are: Ceremony, Transmission, Glass, Komakino and of cause Atmosphere.

Since I'm too young to have seen Joy Division live, seeing New Order live on their latest tour playing Ceremony was huge.

I read touching from a distance when it came, I found it interesting and sad, I have heard others complaining that this book ruined Joy Division's  music to them but I can't say that it has changed my view of the band, the music or Ian Curtis.

The soundtrack of my youth: ;)
Any mood -Joy Division later also Nick Cave
Angry-Dead Kennedys
In need of therapy- Einsürzende Neubauten ;D
Happy- New Order
