Toadfish Monastery

Hallo, Folks!

It's not only a new year on the Roman calendar, it's also a new year for the Toadfish Monastery. Two years ago this week the Toadfish Monastery was formed as a private area of another site (here sometimes referred to as TOP, or The Other Place) to serve as a sanctuary for those who wanted to try their hand at civil discussion over simply launching "You're stupid!" bombs at eachother.

It wasn't for the faint of heart, but we're still here and we're still trying and for that reason alone, we could be glad. We know we'll never be perfect, but we know we're not meant to be. We are not angels, just people who are willing to take an extra step toward learning more. In having respect for ourselves and eachother we have opened up a little and shared what is good about each one of us. In practicing humbleness we have had to understand that we each have faults and so we can easily afford to be forgiving of the faults of others, especially when it helps us solve problems.

We don't expect ourselves to be other than human. We show off our boisterous, homey, creative, and tremendously silly selves here as well. Thank *Whatever* for The Pirate Cove without which we might come off as too plain, pious, intellectual, lefty or goody-goody, which we really are not. Sometimes it may be hard to explain the Pirates to others, but some Native American peoples might understand them to be our "contraries"- or people with the sacred mission of displaying absurdity in order to keep us on our toes. We have to keep in touch with that side of ourselves. So y'arrggghh away, mateys.

Where was I? I forget. Anyway, there's always lots more to figure out and I'm grateful for everyone who gives it a go. I love you guys! Have a fantastic monastic new year.

It would be interesting to read some sort of brief Monastery history; when, where, why and how. Especially for us that have joined more recently and doesn't share the TOP background, I also think it would be a good thing to have on site in a few years time, as I complement to our mission statement to explain what this place is about.

I hope this place will grow slowly but steadily like an Oak tree and at least as long lived as one.
