The 'bass' guitarron the guy was playing--is that a 6 string instrument?

My brother the bass player has been trying to locate a good one (at a reasonable price), what's called in Mexico a 'bajo sixto', and if the guitarron is the same thing, it'll give us a different name to use in the search. Poor baby has 3 'regular' electric basses, 2 6 string electrics, 2 jazz basses, a vintage upright bass in a blonde wood that's phenomenal in looks and sound, and a couple of 5 string basses as well. So, obviously he NEEDS an acoustic bass that's not a big as the full size upright-- Oh, well, it's easy to shop for him. Strings!

Loved the piece, BTW.

In all honesty I don't know. It is a mixture of classical with cowboy music from the plains between Venezuela and Colombia (musica llanera) and usually the bass part is made with a harp, in fact it's the first time I see it on a guitarrón (which is what it resembles, the kind Mexican mariachis use) (or with a violin for what matters). AFAIK the guitarrón has 6 strings but I'm not an authority on the subject.

On a side note the smaller one is a cuatro (4 strings).
