Toadfish Monastery

So I've been st Starbuck's for about three weeks. And I'm still training, since there's SO much to learn.
Not a big deal. I'm still learning.
I really like most of the people I work with. They're extremely cool.
However, there's one supervisor (for lack of a better term) that really frustrates me.
All I do when I work with her is register and cleaning. She's supposed be having me do more than that, like the espresso bar and the frap machine.
I don't mind do what needs to be done, but she doesn't even let me mark cups. And the only time I work the bar is when she's in the back washing dishes (another task I'm apparently not capable of doing).
She also gets annoyed if I ask (unless I all but grovel for the info) and if I make an assumption. I need to defer to her for everything and her position of authority.
She's supposed to be TRAINING ME and she not! I'm just on the register and mopping the floor.
I do everything she asks of me to the best of my ability of course, but it frustrates me.
She talks down to me. I'm younger yes, by about eight years, but I speak better then she does and I'm more accommodating to customers.

If you get a chance to 'chat informally' with the manager, praise the supervisors that DO teach you stuff, but don't mention her...

That way, you've been positive about your work experience, but MIGHT have put a question in his/her mind about the effectiveness of that one person as a training supervisor. Hopefully, it'll cause some inquiry and possibly a change in the way the 'training' is done.

also if someone like a District manager comes in you could ask them questions-- and if you get a "you don't know this"
smile sweetly and say "well I do know how to mop- that's what I've been shown."

I train new dispatchers often--- and by train I mean I put them in the radio room with me and put them on the radio and computer- this trying to learn/teach by osmosis thing just doesn't work.

Does this manager/supervisor perhaps think that if you know something she'll loose her job. Or does she simply like being the "smart" one? If she is not "real management" yet- maybe she is in manager training.

Can be a tricky situation--- just watch for a while and you'll find out what the other managers think about her- they will either like her and approve of her in all things or they will not like her and be looking for a reason the get her gone.
It is frustrating to be in a position where you know you'd be competent- even good at it but be held back and worse talked to as if you are a child by someone who could use some talking to themselves.

Thanks for the advice, guys. I may follow Chatty's suggestion, I think.
I need to be told what to do a couple times (with stuff like this) and then to make drinks. And most of my supervisors have been very helpful and tolerant, just this lady hasn't.

Yarr !  I have the luxury to pick and choose employers , so far the worst employee I have is me and the best boss i have is me...a two month project is in it's seventh year ....I have lots of excuses though!
