Elvis, Elvis, Elvis and more Elvis. Hawaii concert 1973 at present. It's been a whole weekend of Elvis on the TV here.

I did manage to squeeze in The End of Time part 2 and the regeneration. Left me with lots of questions. Like that comment on the hair.......... is regeneration always the same gender? If so, why?

Incidentally Matt Smith was already a big hit as far as I am concerned. Saw him in "Party Animals" and earmarked him for stardom.

Some past changes in Doctors spurred a great deal of speculation on whether, this time, he would be a she.  (There's been an ongoing "not a Ginger this time, either' joke, too.)  Looking at an alleged roster of potentials for this time around, I would really have preferred any of them to what I have called 'the creature' since he was first announced.

Time [sic] will tell if he lives up to the role.

Unfortunately only the censored version seems to be easily available (although that too is 3hours long).

Yes, the release i have is one of the many cut versions. The one I have is co-released by Swedish indie label Njutafilms and Russian Cinema Council, and seems to be a somewhat restored version of the original Soviet distribution, at about 190 minutes length. Njutafilms have packaged it with a extra disc with lots of bonus materials -documentaries, behind-the-scenes and some cut scenes, too. I haven't watched everything yet, but it seems to be a solid release.

I suspect originally because Dr Who was aimed at small boys (who wouldn't accept a female hero, CF J K Rowling and Harriet Potter) and their fathers (who wanted a leggy female assistant in a very short dress).  Be interesting to know what the gender/age mix of the audience is these days.

I notice Rassilon has lost weight since The Five Doctors.

As to viewing population, probably lots of old ladies like me who want to see what Matt Smith gets up to.
