Okay, as of today I'm fed up with seeing those animated weight-loss ads that pop up online, especially when I'm in my Yahoo! accounts. I guess they know my age and gender and just figure I'm a good target for these things, but some of them are so completely unrealistic they grate on me!
The ones I speak of show a young, healthy, plump, cartoon woman in a skin-tight dress (and I know men who would love women just like that) shrink into a wasp-waisted woman in a skin-tight dress. So, she goes from like a size 20 to a size 1 in three seconds. The one that I got today had the caption "Eat Yourself Skinny"! I try to avert my eyes, but honestly- what the heck are these people trying to do to us?
Subvert it by inserting a colon: Eat yourself, Skinny!
Try switching to a web experience that lets you suppress pop-ups.
I'm told Opera lets you do this, and the very latest IE actually has pretty good anti-pop-up controls-- but you must have Win7 to get it.
And, of course, FireFox, running NoScript will put the kabash on those ads permanently. I haven't see a pop-up in years--apart from the ones I choose to see (such as my bank's log-in engine).
Or stop using Yahoo! It's my most hated email client. Even Hotmail is less annoying.
I use firefox with a popup killer (Adblock plus) and have done so for years...
for web mail I use mail.com and have recently opened a g-mail account (for the android phone-thingy) both work well enough.
As for the content in the ads...
it can make me work up a foam around my mouth... :taz:
Is Yahoo still around? I thought that had tanked.... I use either COX or GMail.
Ads?
What are those?
You mean they put stuff in the pages trying to sell you stuff?
Seriously?
:P ;)

Firefox+adblock=no ads in yahoo mail (that I use for my spam account). I believe you can get adblock for chrome nowadays too.
As for using Safari, who in his right mind would do that? (talk about a non working browser).
As for using IE, who in his sane mind would do that? (the condomless version of the internet, use it and you WILL get sick).

This I will steal and use whenever I can! ;D
Aye, yer a poirate, ter be sure.
I didn't get ads for years, as I had some sort of adblock. Now they appear not at the top, but INSIDE my Yahoo! mailbox, and some are so animated they take quite a while to load, even with DSL. Cars drive through the page, large-chested people in superhero costumes flash on and off like Broadway... They are a pain!
So linky me if you will to this Firefox/adblock thingy, please.
If you don't have Firefox you can download it from here:
http://www.mozilla.org/
If you already have Firefox (or after installing it) you can get AdBlock from here:
http://adblockplus.org/en/
Get this: I tried installing it and got this message:
"Firefox prevented this site (adblockplus.org) from asking you to install software on your computer."
:hairpull:
Usually there is a timer to prevent automatic addon installation. If it automatically prevented it, then go to the menu* and choose "Add ons", it will open a new tab and in the search box you can search for adblock for installation.
*If you have the compact menu (from FF4 onwards) it will be one of the options, if you have the full menu it should be under Tools|Add-ons
I luves me firfox and adblock---

I had an "install it anyway, gosh darn it" type option and clicked on that. ;)
Okay, I hit "allow" and... the ads are gone! I love you people!!!! :-* :-* :-*
