As someone with ME/CFS I only have a very small counselling practice. My clients are very important to me and with some having weekly, some fortnightly or monthly sessions, I can spread out the working hours so that I get enough rest. This way I can maintain my pacing which is so important both to me and to my clients.
Counselling is not all about client work. We have to keep up with our training. I do all mine online via conferences, webinars and workshops and videos. Some of these are refreshers on aspects of counselling already well-known, sometimes it’s learning in new areas not focused on before, or new ways of practicing. We have to know about all the changes in the industry.
I am also a member of the Counselling and Psychotherapy Union which supports fair practice in the profession. I attend a few online meetings about different aspects, and I recently joined a group looking at Disability.
