Finished River Monsters (did you know that bull sharks travel far inland using rivers and canals and likely even breed in fresh water in some places?). Now back to the Victorian kitchen garden.

Watched Julia Sweeney's Letting Go of God and rather liked it. I've not yet arrived at her conclusions, but recognized a great deal of her trip.

TRON Legacy on Tuesday.
A new ultimate in cool.
Makes good (and selective) use of 3D. So in this case the big screen plus 3D is really recommended.
The plot is of course open to debate but this is a rare case where the coolness factor alone can make it worthwile to watch

I think it is a very good movie but I guess less for a mass audience.
It's neither comedy nor exploitation.

Swato, have you seen Lars and the Real Girl? Similar setup, but less fantastical. Also under-appreciated.

Just read about it. Interestingly Rotten Tomatoes gives Lars high notes while Air Doll is at only 43% (according to wikipedia). Viewer comments I have read point in the opposite direction (hating on Lars and pointing out how much better Air Doll is).
What makes me suspicious is that fundamentalists seem to love Lars, seeing it as a 'family values' piece. Air Doll would be far too explicit in certain aspects for that. I'd even say that Air Doll would be a textbook example of how far one can go with nudity etc. without it turning pornographic or exploitative. What clearly helps is the excellent performance by the female lead.

I liked it.  There's no need to put similar movies in competition, so which is better is extraneous info IMHO.  The similar subject matter did provoke the question, however. The female lead in Lars is not much of an actress.

My favorite zomcom is Fido, and that got panned critically, so there's no accounting for my taste.

I did not buy the DVD for that because I read that many had troubles with it (and my player is not very good in the first place).
Also minimum bonus material while the Region 1 seems to have lots of it.
Still waiting for a Region 2 edition of I Walked With A Zombie (or a showing at a certain cinema in Berlin). It's not in the internet archives afaict.
