Interesting question. The highlanders can often be staunch monarchists, and the Scots city dwellers staunch republicans.

On the other hand the £11bn pounds a year subsidy we'd no longer have to pay the Scots would build quite a nice castle in Northumberland, with money left over for a new royal yacht, and an extra course on Hadrian's Wall.
And we wouldn't have socialist Scots M.P.s voting on English affairs when ours don't get to vote on theirs.
Be a shame if they went, but these factors would cushion the blow.
