Not yet awake enough. Although I know what conkers are (fruits of the chestnut tree) at first I read it as a word for seashells (is there a similar sounding word?) then cobblestones.

Conkles was my first impulse to suggest as a shell-name, but it's not actually a word.  I think my brain concocted it (although there is a lake by that name in the area) as a portmanteau of 'conch' and 'cockles'.

Conkers is a game that every generation of children play. They used to sell hot chestnuts on the streets too in years gonebye; sadly no longer. The word "conch" refers to a particular type of sea-shell (immortalised in Lord's of the Fly). Poor Piggy.
