Hmm, you've alluded to this a few times, you will have to expound on it somewhere, sometime.  I was thinking of organized violence, I suppose.

It has more to do with power than anything else, even those well intentioned fundies want power to 'clean' the world of the 'evil ways' and with enough power they go at it with gusto.

The farther ones goes in each direction (left or right) the more radical the adherents are (of course there are the radical moderates too ). Radicals are more likely to use directed violence (i.e. with a purpose going beyond violence for violence's sake).
It gets difficult, when one tries to define the edges of what is policy (and what is not). If one goes with the original definition of policy as anything to do with the society at large, then all religion is of course political even if it tries to 'not do politics' (separating itself from the public is by itself a political act).
