And mothers know everything. In my day they knew the secret place you hid your special interest magazine collection, and now they know the same about your internet jaunts.  When you and teddy are tucked up for the night they press a secret button on Norton and review all the dodgy places you visited.

And saying it was research for a school project on social issues doesn't cut it.

age 12-- well honestly he's got the basics already-- they get that from osmosis-- I'd just go with age appropriate and family appropriate stuff- allowing the child to be free to ask about anything (wihout fear of mom and dad freaking) will leave the door open for what ever needs clarification (they do pick up mis-information like doing it the first time won't get a girl pregnant and such or the old do it in the pool and no one gets pregnant etc ) and that is where parent input is so valuable.

Just be there (you and mom both) and be honest-- if you honestly don't know (for example how many of you can define Santorum-- stop sniggering! - I couldn't and got asked and WOW) don't wing it- look it up - together.
