Stalin's death is disputed. Although there was no Jewish doctor plot, Beria (who spread the rumors that there was) claimed (according to Molotov) that he poisoned Stalin.
Would have been a wise move since the 2nd Great Terror was already being prepared and Beria knew that Stalin would likely get rid of him soon too (as happened to all predecessors except Dzershinsky, who died early enough to be spared).

Beria was in the second most powerful position in the Soviet Union. There was no guarantee that he would be able to keep it should Stalin be replaced. He had only to act when he feared that his own liquidation was right around the corner. So it would have been a calculated risk.

The Russians were bombing turkish backed rebels, Turkey shot down a plane and the rebels a chopper. Russia may not go to war with Turkey but the rebels are definitively toast.
