Just came back from my trip to Britain yesterday evening. No time yet to look at the photos I made.

Took a Kodak Instamatic on my first trip to France. Did not go well.

Most of the images taken at night are out of focus.
In part due to the long shutter opening combined with my inability to keep my hand unmoving and in part to the autofocus not working well at low light levels.
Otherwise less bad than expected. I may post a selection some time.

Low lighting photography is incredibly tricky, you have to fiddle with the settings if the camera allows it, but your average point-and-shoot will likely have trouble with those pictures.

We built our own camerae obscurae* in physics class and tried them in the school yard. On the picture I took it was at least possible to recognize the location. Only one classmate achieved something that look like a 'normal' if rather unfocused and shaky photograph (still rather impressive). Most others got just something gray.
I think I still kept the contraption somewhere.

I am no good at fiddling with camera features and try to get out of auto functions what is possible for me. But it's a learning curve.

Nowadays you can even fiddle with camera phones, although to tell the truth not a great deal*.
