That was a line from a Loriot sketch quite famous in Germany. It's about a TV announcer stumbling through a thicket of 'th', failing in the end.
I recently wrote an Icelandic version of it but it has not yet been proofread.

Oh, that style was popular over here too at quite different times. In pre-television times more for adults, on TV primarily for children. Lasted longer in the GDR than in the FRG.

Those automatons were all the craze in the 18th and ealy 19th century. The best known of the 'writers' (a male) plays a key role in the movie Hugo Capret.
I would have loved to see the famous duck that could both eat and digest but it was one of the first that got lost Its wreck was seen and described some time after the first disappearance but that seems to have been the end of it.
