No vampires in there. The only drinking of blood is ritualistic and the character uses his (actually her) own.
Although it would fit the contemporary belief system, there are no werewolves either.
There are strong hints toward a snake and a cat demon, and there is a Draugr (zombie).
The main supernatural elements are provided by shamans, völvas (seeresses) and noitas (witches).
The gods, while referred to occasionally, stay out.

I would call that marginal talent, that is, the lowest common denominator will fall for it massively.

But in pop music the work is done by experts in producing just the mediocre stuff that sells well.
The sparklesucker series was written (to my knowledge) by a genuine amateur.

Looking for comparision to Harry Potter, there we have some initial talent that over the run of the series got bolstered more and more by experience. There is a visible growth process. From what I hear about the lightweight, eh, twilight series, the later books show no difference in quality (or lack thereof) to the earlier ones.
In other words R. learned the trade by doing improving significantly over time, while M. stayed a hack and either lacked the talent or did not see the need to improve on the winning formula.
