Is one of the words actually harz, or a derivative?

Is that word the first or second of the combination?

'gondola' fits somewhat for the transport-related clues...  open-topped railway/coal cars and Venetian boats are known as such. Doesn't seem to be a good syllable match.

'hopper' might also fit.

A góndola will move you from point A to B so that isn't it. A hopper would be an insect and he closed that lead before.

I don't rule out the name of a vehicle as one of the words.  The composite means something that is not a vehicle, but gives the impression that it could be.

'Hopper' has multiple meanings.  Motion seems implied in the word, hence scooter, hopper...

Well, the LPWB is in the English wikipedia where the first part is Harz, while in the German there is an ending attached.
As far as the second word is concerned, 'scooter' is the direct equivalent of the second word in German but the word is also a term for a vehicle in English. One a bit slower and heavier.

Aggie was also right that the invisible property is a nasty smell; attached to a 'food' that is sometimes referred to with the same term as the LPWB.

The witches according to tradition assemble on the Brocken  ('lump'), the highest mountain in the Harz Mittelgebirge on Walpurgis Night (April 30th/May 1st).

Now find out what allegedly made music in the coalmines. The LPWB belongs among them. And do not tell me that is too German. It's proverbial in English (but not in German).
