Yeah, but the Persians also dumbed down cuneiform and turned it from a system with hundreds or thousands of symbols into a short alphabet because of the misguided idea that a simpler system would be more efficient (when efficiency is the last thing any decent person could wish for when the holy art of writing is concerned).

They should have done what the Mayans did, a mixed system of ideographs and syllables, where each syllable has more than one symbol and different ways to mix them. The scribes were more concerned with the aesthetic nature of their writing making sure that if the same word appear in the text it would be written differently.

The obvious choice after the fact is using musical notation, but in reality nothing prevents ideographic systems, nor a limited amount of symbols for basic intervals:

I was thinking more of speaking in parallel voices with the full meaning only coming from the harmony (or lack thereof) of all of them combined.
E.g. the lowest voice would provide grammar, the medium the nouns and the upper the verbs.

But there are limitations with the chords, a system like that would likely require perfect pitch ear and by extension have a limited amount of nouns and verbs.
