To answer the last question first: I have it (the Last Post)

And concerning the LPWB

my clue was:
She's fearless in the water but pretty rare today
for nasty swordfishs caught her and made her easy prey

Beagle correctly observed that this was referring to the Fairey Swordfish planes but failed to identify the prey (it's not the herring, that was too specific).
I said that he overlooked the most direct clue.

Beagle is baffled. The ships I mentioned were the most famous targets as far as I know, and battleship or pocket battleship the class, but none of those worked.

Still not sure what the direct clue is that I'm ignoring. No Axis ships that I know of had names that translate to the clue words (but there were a lot of them).
