When I was at work, up until a few hours ago:

Bamboo silk socks with thick woolen socks on top.
Bamboo silk boxers
Merino wool underwear (long johns + top)
"Functional" fabric wicking athletic sweater
Thick woolen pullover with wind-proof liner
Big combat boots, lined
Hi-vis lined winter trousers
Hi-vis lined winter jacket
Merino wool balaclava
Cap
Active ear defenders with comms radio headphones function
Thick lined winter gloves. (with an extra pair in an inside pocket, to keep them warm and dry)

It can get rather cold working outside when it's -20 degrees. When you are out on an open field with the wind around you, it gets even colder. And when you are riding on a rake of wagons and holding on to a steel grabiron, running the loco by remote control, and travelling at 30 km/h, it gets really cold.

My breath froze to ice in the balaclava, and it is a somewhat strange feeling to actually feel the icicles form in your eyebrows and eyelashes. And the bloody germans insist on lubricating their wagon couplers with thick grease, instead of light oil, which means that the couplers on wagons arriving from germany usually are frozen solid and require a not inconsiderable amount of violence and ether to be usable at all.

Still, it's not raining, and there are no mosquitoes about! Anybody wants some ice cream?
