I wasn't aware of this, but it's a serious crime to criticize the Royal Family in Thailand.  By all accounts, this applies to some degrees outside of the country, especially if you're a media outlet:

To be fair to the guy he earned at least one of those medals.

I can't think of anything to say about his award of the Order of the Elephant by Denmark that makes it any funnier.

Actually I can....   The guy has been awarded the Thai Order of the White Elephant... Surely the single most appropriate award for monarchy in the history of the globe.

I have finally found an award to aspire to.
