Whoever organised things like this was very silly. Yes, do come and build a big pipe line to pump out our flooded towns and villages (waste high water mixed with sewage) and deliver it to Aussie.

We soooo need a Star Trek transporter machine.... you could beam your excess water to where it's sorely needed...
Sometimes, the real journey can only be taken by making a mistake.

my webpage-- alas, Cox deleted it--dead link... oh well ::)

...or you could stop building in that one little corner of the country, especially on flood plains and right next to rivers. Spread yourselves out a bit, before the weight of all the houses makes the bottom right-hand corner of the country sink.

I daresay lack of dredging and spending on flood defences has been a factor in the extent of the flooding, but you've built too much on too little land - an issue which goes back to just after WWII and therefore can't be blamed on David Cameron. Blame Attlee or Churchill instead.

We had an inch of snow, which melted again. There was quite a lot of wind, but it's February and this is Scotland, so we expect it.

Opsa

We expected somewhere between 4 and 8 inches of snow on the ground this morning, but woke to 14 (35.56 centimeters)! School, government and businesses are all closed. Snow day!

We spend from 9am until almost noon shoveling the driveway, in an attempt to move the stuff before it got heavy. Luckily, it's a powdery snow and not weighing down the power lines. Also, it has pretty much stopped. Our street has not been plowed since 7 am though, so we can't go anywhere by automobile.

Now we're relaxing indoors watching the news go on and on about people stuck on highways.

I have never understood building on flood plains. Technically I am in one but protected by the Thames Barrier, at least until it is no longer fit for purpose (due to higher tides) which looks like being @ 2020 ish., but are they doing anything about it now? no of course not. and it will take years to improve/extend/replace it. Since there has been an urban population here at least since Roman times, I don't think we can blame Churchill.

I think flood defences are pointless as this is going to go on getting worse. We should move everyone on flood plains up to Scotland obviously.

They won't be able to buy houses if they're using English pounds... :P

Dry and relatively mild today. I wonder if this 'South of England getting Scotland's weather' thing is anything to do with the Jetstream's late arrival last year? Or is it God messing with you - Scotland gets Gay marriage, UKIP voters get flooding?

Opsa

Hah!

We got another couple of inches of snow last night, so I guess we're up to 16 or 17 inches. Today the sun is shining brightly on all the snow, reflecting light around like a huge white beach.

There's no telling with UKIP voters.

Opsa

It's snowing again. On the cold surfaces it is sticking better than on the pavement that absorbed the sun's warmth yesterday.

Megga winds last night, but can't see anything has shifted. Having predicted it was going to be the last of the big storms, they promptly contradicted themselves  on the next weather program saying more storms on the way. David C. has got himself in a pickle saying Money No Object for help and repairs etc thus erradicating the National Debt. One way to get rid of it I suppose.  :P ^^

We had high wind gusts yesterday. I told myself it was the March Lion coming in early. Over the snow.

Weather people now saying weather is improving. But more floods forecast as water washes into rivers from above.

Opsa

Sounds awful.

Cold but clear today. Lotsa snow still around.

Floods receding a little although still 2 severe warnings out for Somerset and it will take months to get the Thames back inside its banks.

Opsa

I hope it backs down soon.

We had a dusting of snow last night and schools were delayed by two hours, I guess because the dusting was slippery on top of the iced-over snow still on the ground.

Right now it is sunny and getting warmer. I think I've had enough snow for this winter.
