Tesla Motors just announced that it has repaid the entire $465 million loan that it received from the Department of Energy a full nine years early. The development makes Tesla the only US car company in history to have fully repaid loans received from the government.

Pretty good job, for an electric vehicle maker. It points towards a promising future for the electric vehicle, although I doubt we'll see the demise of the combustion engine any time soon.

No, but they proved that an electric car company can be profitable, certainly those are luxury cars, but between an @$$hole's car BMW and an electric car, the electric sounds much more attractive.

In five years they can move from a mid luxury to a small luxury car, and perhaps the same tech will power the affordable cars most people buy in ten to fifteen years.

But Tesla also has mighty enemies that try to block its sales in certain US states. No, for a change it is not the anti-enviro GOP but the organized card dealers. Tesla sells its cars without them and this kind of free market is intolerable.
