We need a thread for this, since I don't see the Foghorn chamber in here.

Arg! The manager at the starbucks near my home was supposed to meet me for an interview today. He told me to show up between four and eight this evening. I came at about four thrity, and he wasn't there! Seriously, I had other things I wanted to do this afternoon, and I put them off for this, and he doesn't even show up!

And then the question becomes...do you want to work for somebody who can't keep appointments?

Call him, ask him to set a DEFINITE time, not a 'between' that you can both agree on. See if he can manage that. If not, RUN AWAY. You don't need to work for a manager that has no more stability and sense of responsibility that that.

I've done it. :censored: :censored: :taz: is not the way to have a decent work environment.

Gaaaaaaaaaaar. Mail order companies that snear at one for asking (because none are shown anywhere) what waist measuements they have for their sizes chart.

Answer, you keep ordering different sizes and sending them back til you hit the right waist size. Or, you order every size and send back the wrong ones, but oh dear you haven't enough credit on your account to order all of the sizes at once have you. Gaaaaaaaaar.

New Snark

WHY do doctors think that they have to 'fix' what isn't broken? I've been using some perfecly good medication for my nerve pain. Neurontin (gabapentin) is available as a generic, and is effective. I'm nowhere near maxed on the dose, and it's been fine.

My neuro is out of the country for 6 months, teaching in Sweden. The guy that's handling his patients wanted me to try Lyrica, although everybody on my carcinoid e-list that tried it finds it less effective than Neurontin. IT's NOT as effective, it makes me loopy, I sleep a lot, but i'm also thirsty, so i'm drinking a lot, so it's up and down and up and down...

He wants me to stick with it for another week. Arrrgh.

Lyrica is the one just got a brand new licence for a brand new use discovered as a side line - for anxiety - as I remember. A friend who has anxiety says it's worked like magic. If you don't have anxiety, then that may account for the loopiness ??

Docs arbitrarily changing my meds for no medical reason drive me insane. I always react badly and have to return to the old meds. There should be a recognised medical condition for Docs with this disease. Perhaps Munchausen by Proxy Disorder would do.

I think it's called "perks from the drug companies" .... 'doctors' shamelessly pushing new drugs in exchange for un-named bennies ...  ::)
Sometimes, the real journey can only be taken by making a mistake.

my webpage-- alas, Cox deleted it--dead link... oh well ::)

Lyrica started out for seizure disorders. (Most nerve pain drugs were originally for seizule disorders.)

Dan says I don't have anxiety, I cause it in others...I think it's a side-effect of the Weatherwaxian mindset. (I'd still rather be Oggish.) ;D

I have a snark about one of my teachers....

about a week ago we were given back essays we wrote at the very beginning of the quarter on Mandate of Heaven and Manifest Destiny. apparently it was supposed to be a formal essay and therefore contractions weren't allowed. but I found the sheet, looked at it, and it said nothing about a formal essay, and it's the first time we've ever gotten or heard of formal essays, at least I've never heard of them before this.

she does this alot. like assigning projects that are unclear, then giving us inadequate time to complete them, and then trying to find a different way to do the exact same project after half the class fails the test.

Also, when we go through a unit, or since its history, a civilization, we do a quick over-view, then go through the history again and again, getting more specific each time. but she dosen't really say this, and kind of goes out of order, and I'm not sure she's even aware this is how it's turning out, but it makes all the dates confusing.

she's really not a great teacher IMO, and her teaching methods do NOT work well with me.

Hmm...  I had a prof who seemed to be allergic to the phrase "I don't know".  Whenever anyone asked her a question that she didn't know the answer to, she'd just make something up.   >:(

It's too bad she's not more clear, but in general, it's good writing style to avoid contractions (and I realize the irony of having "it's" in this sentence).  In just about any essay you write for school, you'll never have marks taken off for being "too formal"... so when in doubt, go by the book.

Have you tried letting her know about all this?  If nobody speaks up, she'd have no reason to think she's anything other than crystal clear.
