Coporal Reginald E. "Andy" Andrews
died today of a heart attack.
He was a law enforcement veteran with 47 years of service as a street cop in the United States-he served 2 years in the United States Air Force and began his career in Sault St Marie, Michigan at the ripe old age of 20 where he met and married a young southern gal named Dawn- they moved here and he worked for the North Little Rock Police Department until 1984 when he transfered to our department.
He was a crack shot and consistently won every law enforcement marksmanship award available- some statewide.
He served as FTO (field training officer) for many newly graduated officers-his knowledge and love of his career shows in each and every officer who did their first 6 months of ride alongs with him. They are a joy to work with- they got it from him- they "know their shit" when he does what he does with them.
He turned down more than one opportunity for a 'desk job' over the years- he remained a coporal so that he could remain among the officers where he felt he should be.
We all love him-- and will miss his smile and absolutely dead on sense of humor. We also love Mrs. Dawn who was almost a second mother to many of us--

Cpl. Andrews- you know I've got coffee ready for you.

Mark Hartmann-- aka Doc-- aka the head of Mark's minions
anthropology professor, truest kind of coach, mentor, most importantly beloved friend.

We gather tomorrow to bury him.

He was only 49-- leaving his wife Camille behind-and the beloved doggies-and the rest of us.
Pneumonia late last year, went back in about 2 1/2 weeks ago- kidneys failed and he had a massive stroke.

He is the one who helped me realize the idea that the point to it all is to NOT drink the kool-aid, introduced me to the primate enrichment program at the zoo, and allowed me to make mistakes and get some benefit from them.

Taught theater to high schoolers and DARED the jocks to call the boys faggots. Professional stage hand, ace mechanic, former motorcycle racer and a pilot...

My last 'serious' boyfriend in college. OK, ONLY really serious boyfriend in college...

Actor, director, teacher and just a good guy.
