Just watched Eddie Izzard's "Dress to Kill", recorded when he performed it in San Francisco. Had me giggling happily many times. But found myself wondering how well the material/humour was going over to a US audience.

Anynone watch it?

I've heard that particular one (actually, I have it laying around here someplace) and yes, it does translate. Most of my friends are HUGE Izzard fans and I absolutely love him, too. A ridiculous number of people I know are also Pratchett and Gaiman fans, as well.

Does that answer the question?

Opsa

I have a recording of Izzard's "Dressed to Kill" and I think it is among the best comedy standup performances ever.*

I love brilliant people.

I also like Wanda Sykes for the same reason. I wonder if she translates to British.

* Plus, I think he looks like me when I put on makeup... on a good day!

I love EI's stand-up!

I've seen them all from YouTube clips and have Dressed to Kill  & Definite Article.  Circle  is on my buy-list as soon as it becomes readily available here.

I've been introducing him to friends and family steadily, most of whom get and enjoy the material very much.

Izzard. Rickman.

WANT.

Oh, EI plays pretty well anywhere, because he MAKES it happen. This is , after all, the man who learned complete French, including idiomatic, and then re-visioned a totally new script for some of his work and went and performed it completely in French.

I lubs the Eddie. That he's turned out to be an excellent dramatic actor? Bonus.

I really think talent combined with intelligence translates well. He's just more proof.

Maybe the secret of NOt Lost in Translation is intelligent comedians.

It's why Billy Connolly's humor works everywhere they can get past the accent...

There are some "comics" that aren't intelligent, true, but a GOOD comic/comedian works with the intelligence of the audience. Having hung around with some pretty bright guys at Comedy Workshop in Houston, I can say that the dumb comics that really are sorta dumb burn out fast. The brilliant go on forever.
