What processor is in it? I still have an Athlon 3000 (1800GHz) with a Radeon 9600 and it still runs nicely. Pity the back light is done so is now used as a desktop...  :-\

What make and model is it Zono?  I can probably fix it for less than $150 shipping included.

I have no idea what processor it is.  They were built to order.  Won't know 'til I turn it on.  I suspect T7300 or something...

Okay well I do now... *sigh*

Here's your problem:

Sibling Zono (anon1mat0)

It's an eMachines M6805. Apart from the back light he connector of the PSU was fixed in an unorthodox manner (but it works).

Awesome!  $65 plus shipping.  I know exactly what it is.  Need the power jack repaired too?  Another $65.  Piece of cake.  I was a certified micro-miniature repair tech in the Navy...

I'll service it for free while I'm in there.  Want me to look into a CPU and RAM upgrade?  Don't know how much the CPUs are running there but I usually go for the first one less than $100 on a budget upgrade.  For Intel laptops that makes them much faster.

Sibling Zono (anon1mat0)

I doubt the chipset takes a much faster processor (dual cores have different steppings even if the socket fits), memory wise it has 1.5Gb if I'm not wrong, which is OK, for now. Let me figure out how to ship it to you (and convince my wife because it's hers).

Probably not...  I got to get an OS on it first so I can find out.  Just installed Windows 7 after much troubleshooting.

If you need a hot spare I can probably send you one in the next few days. Broken it's worth about $75 according to eBay.  About twice that working.  I couldn't find a service manual which I'm not worried about.  Was looking to see what what the fastest processor you could put in it was but I'll have to wait until I can get a look at it.  Do you know if it will it take a dual/triple core?  I have a couple Turion x2 x64s around here somewhere.  There's a program called CPU-Z that you can run that will tell you all sorts of fun things about your laptop.

Think I should split this thread...

Edit:
Topic split.  I should mention the labor on the inverter and the power jack could be considerably less and won't be more.

If you need a hot spare I can send you one and you can send yours in that box.  You can also go buy laptop shipping cartons.  Should be less than $15 and if you send it to me after your done I will credit you the cost since I will reuse it.

Lets find your wife a better laptop and see if we can overclock this one since we can get parts cheap! :D  I got K-9 looking into specs right now.  Corsair Reactor? :D

:k9-affirmative:

I'll check the specs and send them to you. No need for replacement right now.

No worries, no hurries.  Hmmm... I could probably by two broke M6805's and make a good one.  It would be fun to try and overclock one.  The CPU is rated up to 3.0Ghz, don't know for how long... :D  Wouldn't charge you labor for that.  Anything involving letting the smoke out of a laptop is free! :D

Hey, I don't suppose your display troubles happened about the same time you installed Windows 7 did it?

Sibling Zono (anon1mat0)

It's still running XP, properly might I add. Nah, there must be a short somewhere because it flickers sometimes.

It's just got a bad inverter.  Truly if it's easy to get to, I can fix it for $10 maybe.  Sometimes all you have to do is pull the LCD bezel off and it's sitting right there underneath.  It might even just be loose.

Grab this just in-case you change your mind if you want...  It's only a $1...
