Title: More about "Bible boot camps"

You might think "Jesus Camp" (Harry Potter will go to hell because God hates warlocks) was bad but that's just the first step.
After that comes the "real" boot camp and then the "military academy".

QuoteNet #2 - The Family Net

The Fathers

Don't abandon your family
Don't be present but absent
Love your wives as Christ loved the Church
Keep romance alive in your marriage
Provoke not you children to wrath
Date your daughters
Spend time with and compliment your sons

The Mothers

Submit to your husbands
Respect your husbands
Be his biggest cheerleader
Keep romance alive in your marriage
Have girl talks with your daughters about intimate things
Teach your sons the mysteries of womanhood

Umm....  huh?  That is certainly poorly worded.  :P

The first two things also seem contradictory (don't abandon and be absent?)

*smacks forehead with hand*

The only times I should read stuff like this is when I feel my blood pressure dropping rapidly and I'm about to faint because this would probably send it back to normal level and a bit above it too...

...

How can any parent willingly put their kids through anything like this? I don't understand. :(

"Present but absent" is read as a complete phrase and refers to physical presence with emotional absence, which many men still unfortunately consider to be proper manliness.

Or could it be a coded recommendation to join the army and see the world (but not the family) :-\?
And maybe there is an "only" missing before the 'dating your daughters'

A 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. schedule? Confrontation therapy? No doctors? This is classic brainwashing. Grrr...

I see it finally gets to the Granddaddy of the Christian boot camp system, Mel Sembler, (AKA Ambassador Melvin Sembler, friend of the Bush family for decades) and the good old Rolloff homes is Corpus Christi.

This is what happens when 'deregulation' meets lack of regulation.

And here I thought Jesus Camp was shocking.

The bit about court orders was particularly disturbing. Not only does the government fund this, but it can also force kids into it. Wow.

As an alternative to the Texas Youth Commission's recent incarnation as a private brothel...boot camp might not be that bad an alternative.

Yep, those good ol' boys and their system are probably no better.

Here's the link to the story that started the scandal. That the mes responsible have not even been charged...
