Since yesterday evening youtube seems to have gone into snail mode with data transfer rates going down to 5-15 Kb/s while my line usually has one of 250 (and still has for other websites). Am I the only one facing that problem at the moment or ius there a specific youtube problem affecting everyone?
My YouTube service is no more dreadful than it usually is out here in rural Ayrshire. Not like the old house in Argyllshire.
Say what you like about nuclear weapons, but when you live next to the submarine base and you're on the same telephone exchange as it, you get blisteringly fast broadband at no extra cost. Good old nuclear weapons...
Mines ok without the nuclear weapons. But in terms of cable, we are a long way from Berlin.
It seems to have stabilised for the moment. Must have lasted from about midnight to noon.
It must have been a plot to discombobulate the peasants.
Does your ISP believe in Net Neutrality?
Mine (ATT) doesn't and I get to enjoy their choices on what moves or crawls on my screen...

I think in Germany it would be illegal (still) to tie bandwith to content. I do not know where the servers are located. Youtube was the only site (and on it only the videos themselves*) that suffered from the problem. I got my daily MSNBC downloads (from the MSNBC sites not youtube) without problem.
*independent of source, it affected German, British and American videos alike

Most YouTube is hosted directly on the YouTube servers, and the link is just a redirect to there, from the site posting/embedding the vid.
Likely, your pipe to YouTube's servers had been compromised in someway.
