Or, why I prefer cats over dogs ...

Like a Kurosawa duel. First motionless* like a still, then the action is over essentially in a split second.

*apart from the extremly shaky camera

Yeah, the camera technique was annoying.

For something shot likely with a phone or other handheld device it looks quite good (and funny).

Too good.
Wish they had the part where the cat comes strolling out from between the cars all bushied up and then climbs up on something to have a good wash and calm down.

Poor puppy-- but good that it ran.

He goes to play and gets played. Also, notice the moment the camera man/(woman?) goes around the car and gets close, the cat looks back at him like saying "Don't dare interfere, human!". :D

I just watched this again... laughing as much as the first couple'a times....

What I love is the over-confidence of the wee doggy as he charges the cat, and the cat sitting back on her haunches until the dog gets within striking distance, then rearing up her hind legs to employ both a left and right claw-strike into the sides of the doggie's face.

Then, the "come back here, I'm not through teaching you some manners, dog" attitude of the cat as the dog is in full-on retreat.

............

I suppose it would not have been nearly so humorous, if the cat had struck first; that would have just been a bully, beating up on a lessor foe.   Reminds me of a old Bugs Bunny cartoon-- Bugs was a very powerful character.  But the writers took great pains to ensure that Bugs was simply minding his own beezewax, and was attacked first, in some way or other.

Most humorous.

Bugs Bunny - the great American trickster of the 20th century.

I believe the cat struck first, the dog thought it was a game, he looked happy and curious as if the cat was a new toy, not in the classical dog attack mode.

And so a new debate (http://www.thinkgeek.com/images/products/frontsquare/pvp_hanshotfirst.jpg) is begun...

You know, Dom the Danger Catte looked a lot like that one when he was younger, and he's amazed the neighbors with his ability to back their large dog away from the fence, all the way to his house steps, if he gets too rambunctious barking into our yard!

I just re-watched the thing, full-screen in 22 inch wide format.  The dog charged the cat's position first, which the cat correctly interpreted as an aggressive move.

Whether the dog just wanted to play or no, he learned a valuable lesson:  anytime you want to play with a cat, you will do so on the cat's terms.  With claws-out.

among other examples - cats know how to handle their power and throw a great deal more around than that sleek, compact package would suggest.

On the other hand there was the close friendship between a cat and a bear (ironically named Mäuschen = little mouse) at the Berlin Zoo.

That's one brave cat, Aggie!

Dom has come a long way. He freaked completely  the first time he saw Benji, accidentally hooking my glasses with a paw and flinging them clear across the room when I tried to pick him up. A couple years later he's patrolling the backyard, keeping it safe for "his" small dogs from the large ones in adjacent yards...

Back to Bob's video link: the cat definitely started it.   ;)

A cat pounce-prep-crouch doesn't look all that different from a canine play-bow to the untrained doggy eye, I suppose....   aside from the cold malevolence in the stare. ;)

If you look closely at the clip, the cat starts the stalk while the pooch sits there looking like it wants to play.  Doggie gets into a hunting posture and stalk for a while and takes off that way, but you can tell from the tail position during the sprint that there's a big element of play involved.  You can see the dog backpedalling and trying to stop before reaching the cat, as it figures out that the cat is not going to turn tail and run - before the cat has lifted a paw.

You dog people... you think your dogs are all innocent and sh1t.... but they're not.

They are secretly planning....

.... to take over the world.

:-*

And now you know.

Dogs live in the house, and I am willing to help clothe them.

But I've been a cat person since one helped teach me to walk, and *years* of loving observation back my confident assertion that the cat started it!

I'm not a dog person, I'm a bird person!
--
The dog is too playful, had he meant business he would've shown his teeth before and the cat would've likely jumped out of reach considering the slight size advantage from the dog. Not the case therefore lesson to the dog.

I am sure the pup just wanted to play and of course the cat started it-- start it and finish it.
The dog was probably very confused after all was over with.

In the overly loud voice of Lucy VanPelt (of Peanuts) (accompanied by Charley Brown doing a back-flip, and loosing his shoes)

"THAT'S IT!"

:D

Nice find in the same theme as my video.
