I have gotten to know several of my siblings screen names being used in the monastery, but not every one's. So I thought I would start a thread where all could announce themselves, and also learn who everyone else is. So I'll start...
Hi, I am Aphos, AKA Aphos the Mathematical, AKA Poincare's Stepchild.
Alright...
Hi, I'm Kiyoodle the Gambrinous, and I am an alcoholic... Ooops, wrong place, my AA meeting is tomorrow. Anyway, I'm also known as singidunum.
Ok... What more can I say? :)
Yo ho! I am Sir Francis Drake, known in the monastery as Opsanus tau (latin name for Oyster toadfish). But you can call me Opas! :toadfish:
Auntie Dee Dee here, AKA Sibling Chatty.
The Meromorph a.k.a. Sibling Quasimodo
Sibling Lambicus the Toluous, aka boghog, here.
Sibling Alchemical, reporting for duty.
Hey, Duje! Glad someone's reporting for duty. This place needs usage.
Griffin NoName wandering around
Bob the Unbeliever here as well as there, allthough I went by the name of Humming Toadfish in the FSM HOT sanctuary.
(I had not chosen that name, when I activated membership here.)
Edit: NOW, it properly shows me as Humming Toadfish ... Yaaay! *
(I thought I had set it up here as that moniker ... :) )

* and all it took was a simple log-out & in. THANKS goes to Meromorph!
Hello! Sibling Vita Curator here, also known as Shooting Star.
Sibling Zonotrichia Capensis or Sibling Zono for short.
Blessings Siblings.
It's Sibling MIDL (Most Inspired DaveL), also known as DaveL. SOOO glad to be in the sanctuary right now. My former FSM world has gone insane and I'm not sure what to do.
If I stay in FSM land, I'll be forcing myself to interact with a bunch of people who have done much wrong, despite reassurances.
However, maybe I can build some bridges, for time does heal all wounds.
We must finish writing our scriptures.
Peace
You are braver than I.
Kat, aka Kat, aka Kat, aka Sibling Outis.
Hi MIDL.
Do continue the work on the scriptures...Solipsy and FT worked so many hours on all of that, and i'd hate fer it to go the way of the Dodo.
As to the forums, I wish the forums well. I hope there's not a degeneration into the kind of stuff the hatemail has. We were, supposedly, supposed to be 'better than that' 9Bobby's statement, not mine) and to avoid the extremes against people of faith. (Any faith. My tendency was to give Christian bashing much less attention that Islami, Jewish or other faith bashing, but...you never know what's the important thing about a faith until someone tells you. Rots of religions, little discussion, because it turns rancorous so fast.)
Contrary to what Bobby's been saying, I quit for HIS good, and for the good of the forums. I've been doing on-line forums/BBS since he was in middle school, and i've seen more of these that he'll ever know. The manner in which he did what he did (not responding to 90% of my questions, rarely responding AT ALL since the beginning, then saying nothing to me, putting up his little declaration and telling his untruths) was totally destructive to my being able to do a THING to help the transition.
Had he told me what his concerns were and what he wanted to do, I could have stepped down with the truth--my health is more important to me that the forums, and it's not getting any better. (I've been trying to engage him in dialogue for...7 months? Since the book came out. I've wanted out, but smoothly, and I needed his THOUGHTFUL input, not a kneejerk reaction.) And, having seen the screenshot of the 'new management'...Cardinal Quequeeg!! In all his glory...well, imagine that.
I'm not going to pretend that it was a total shock, I know something was up. I'd hoped that Bobby would finally communicate. Ha...not a chance. One of the members (practicing psychiatrist) claims that he's passive aggressive to the max, and i'd say that's a fair assessment. I don't need that, and neither does anyone else. Between Gene's (Cardinal Quequeeg) own little quirks and Bobby's passive aggressiveness, i'd say that Capellini's in for a tough time. I hope she puts herself in front of the needs of the forum, especially her education. She's got a lot to contribute to the world, and doesn't need the drag on her time that the forum can be.
Gene's also fairly P/A, and a little too assured that he's right. About everything. He's a doctor, you know... ::)
So, Bobby's finally 'normalized' the front page of the forum and stopped threatening me with 'legal action' for something that he's hallucinating, as far as i'm concerned. He needs to move on, as I have, and I need to thank everybody who has supported me. If I were upset, it would be a great comfort, but all I am is relieved. At this stage of my life, and with these medical problems, it's one less pain in my butt, and I need all the no-butt-pains I can get.
I love you guys, I appreciate the support, and I want y'all to lay off Bobby. He's a 26 year old slacker, and as the guy who wanted an interview said "He could be doing this to cause controversy, since there is none in his meme anymore." And I just said "whatever." Bobby's forum, Bobby's erroneous statements, Bobby's foolishness in blaming me for the forums being down (forums are cyclical) yet being all pissy about my publicizing the forums by posting elsewhere with my name and identity. (I've never used a fake ID on the web, and I won't now. What is his problem?)
And if you bought anything from Ring of Fire, Cafe Press or one of the book order sites, Bobby claims to have a list of e-mail addresses from which merchandise was ordered. This is against the privacy provisions by which internet sellers are supposed to work. Be aware of that. It's your privacy that he's claiming to have invaded with the help of these people.
My mailbox is open, i'm not changing e-addresses for anybody. And as far as what Bobby has to say...let him. He's not my problem any more. Thank whatever God or Gods/deities that one prefers, Bobby's someone else's headache.
Finito. There's a future out there. I'm moving onward and trending toward relaxed for the first time in a long time.
DD
DD, or should I say, Sibling Chatty...
I am so glad you made it here. I was afraid I was going to have to chase you down on the 'net.
Just to get it said, while I know you are relieved not to have to deal with the massive chore of admining the forum, I still think Bobby treated you very badly. To do it the way he did, in public, with no tact what-so-ever...Well...
That said, let's move on to the new times here at the monastery. May they be good ones.
We all love ya too Auntie!
I'm still considering my position, despite an initial pledge to stick around. It's reading the feelings of others here that have me zig-zagging about my involvement.
Chances are if Pirates gets up again, they won't have a freakin' clue what we are talking about.
Perhaps I could be happier here for a while.
Hi, I just wanted to ask everyone to post both of your names here as I am still having difficulty figuring out who is who.
Second, I also am leaving "the other forum" for good. It really has nothing to do with the direction that the forum might take, it has to do with honor.
What Bobby did was such a dishonorable thing. I don't know how old he is, but I do not think that he is a very mature person. His people, management and social etiquette skills are all sorely lacking. As a manager or employer (even when those working for you are volunteers), it is your ethical duty to pull them quietly aside to reprimand or let them know that they have done something that you do not approve of.
To reprimand Dee Dee in such a public, public way, on the internet of all things, where the whole world can read what you say, is unconscionable. The man does not possess an iota of professionalism.
So, I feel, in my heart, that it is dishonorable to continue posting. I cannot in good conscience post in a forum run by someone with such little respect for others and without scruples.
Lastly, I want to thank you all for inviting me to join The Monastery last July and then voting in favor of my admission. I am so glad that I have this place to come to as a refuge. I can truly say that I like and respect you all and would never treat any of you in a dishonorable way, that is my vow to you.
Vita
Hi there. Beagle, also known as Sibling k9 reporting.
Made my feelings about the old world known elsewhere (very similar to those of Vita Curator), so on to the new...

Hey, You, Yes!

I've put my name before, but I will update it...
It's singidunum, aka Singie, aka Sibling Kiyoodle the Gambrinous, also known as Alcohol Boy, or hearing to the name Jan... I can even post a picture... But I don't want all the people here fall in love with me immediately... ;)
(sorry about that, I've been drinking a little, and think it's funny...)

I could too, but I am not so sure I would get that kind of results...
The old scurvy fleet disciplinary board proceedings will be my peneultimate post. Dee Dees' trial is going to be a wee bit of fun. So far she's been possesed by a demon, FSM; while on a derelict ship abandoned by the Captain Bobby (Bad Dick). While looking after a bunch of waifs. Don't know how many are still reading the FSM site' but if you have ideas, send them. Steve
Ahoy or avast there RedAndGreyBeard (always get those two confused, a bit like port and starboard).
Glad to have you aboard. Darren is probably down in the bilge nailing a spinnaker to a vertical gudgeon pin or something, but I'm sure he'd want to say hi.
I'm so glad people are finding their way here. Welcome!
We aim to try to talk about the old place as seldom as possible, here, but I understand that it's been quite a shock for some of us and we may need a period of time to get it out of our systems, first.
I'm not interested in warring with them, but rather in building in another direction. The monastery was using humbleness as a way to converse without getting too much ego in the way toward a (Dee Dee Inspired) mindset of religious tolerance and open philosophy. When the other place decided to take a turn, we simply decided to continue on our way independently.
Wehn I get some time, I am going to compile what is here and make a list of names, old and new. Nice to see people making it here.

today is a new day! What shall we all discuss, what's it the news? Current events? Religion, the weather?
I seem to be registered here twice - as Griffin and as NoName. I will resist the inclination to register a third time as Lord Cap'n Treadmill Bart Snr. Cllr. Saint
Hmmm St, JB ??? anyone
Welcome aboard RedandGreyBeard and everyone else! Holy cow this place is busier than it ever was.
I am down fixing leaks in the bilge. As soon as I get everything ship shape I'll be up for some grog.
Hi Griffin/Noname! You can change your name without registering from the User Menu/Your Details link.

Too late, darlin' I love ya already.
You, too, Nikolas... ;)
I never picked out a Sibling name before we moved, so I'm just going to keep NeferKa for now. I added Bodhipasta to the end, which was something we discussed at venganza. I know someone else coined the term toadisattva, but I didn't know about it until after I became a Sibling. If this is an issue though, I can drop it from my name.
I doubt it'll bother anybody here...(Call me what you want, just don't call me late for dinner.)

I'll post mine too. But it will take a bit, this is a hectic week for me.
You can change your display name in the profile menu, hun.
Still finding my way arounf here. I did post a similar one elsewhere but to follow form I will repeat here.
My name here is Bluenose, formerly Oz_Nick over there.
For those who may be interested (if you are not, don't read the following) "bluenose" is the common name of a favourite endangered fish of mine, AKA the trout cod, Maccullochella macquariensis. If you're really interested in this fish, you can read all about it at http://www.nativefish.asn.au (http://www.nativefish.asn.au), just go to the Fish Files and look up trout cod.
Nick.
Neat. I didn't know it was a fish.
In Canada, "Bluenose" almost universally means the ship on our dime:
For some reason I related bluenose with bottlenose (like the dolphin). Now I'm a bit less ignorant. :smartass:

I'm guessing it's the latter.

...and you would be correct. While we're trying to set up the private sanctuary (nothing ulterior, just a peaceful inner chamber for those who take the formal vow) we have limited access to that area. Anyone interested in taking or re-instating their Toadfish Agreement vow will have the chance to do so starting in November. But first we have to get it in gear. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Reporting at long last (to what appears to be a very mixed metaphor, some sort of combination monastery and pirate ship), this is Allenbatrachus the Grunting. Known OT as Al Dante.
I'm planning on phasing out Al Dante and using Allenbatrachus or Al Grunt here. And I'm NOT going to get started on doing "-AL" sign-offs like this:
- uneconomicAL
...here, because it got to be a real pain in the ass, often taking longer to think of an adjective ending in AL than it did to write the post. (That's the great thing about humility, isn't it? It teaches itself. EventuALly.)
Best,
Sib Al Grunt

There are many corridors in the Monastery. ;)
We seem to have more corridors than rooms; I'm not sure how we managed that.
If anyone finds the path to enlightenment while I'm out, or the corridor to the snooker room, please post the route on that notice board at 204th and 6th.
I've heard mutterings in some dark recesses of the monastery that the path to enlightenment can only be reached by truly dedicated toadfishes who travel the first along the corridor of learning, through the passageway of knowledge, via the cloister of humility and the atrium of acceptance. After that you need to find door to the garden of wisdom then you may find what you are seeking. Apparently the way is not well signposted and there are many false turns but the dedicated do sometimes manage to get there, or so I've been told.
The corridor to the snooker room OTOH is right next to the doorway to Piratica, so watch your step!

Have any of them ever managed to get out again?
It's very easy to get out.
You just have to go through the door of alcohol, which is right next to the corridor of knowledge... If you go through that door, you'll go right to the chamber of drunkeness, which is connected to the corridor of not caring about knowledge...
I think ye got lost in the Carlos Castanada section of the Living Library again, Kiyo.... ;)

Ah, that explains what went wrong. I took the road to perdition, through the boulevard of broken dreams and then merged on to the highway to hell.
